I have Shrink 3.2. Lately, when I have tried to burn certain movies, Mr. and Mrs. Smith for example, I will open shrink and its will start to analyze and then encode. However, once it reaches a certain point before burning starts, my CPU will just power down. Have used Shrink flawlessly with other movies. Just wondering if this is with the encryption or what. My trial of ANYDVD has expired as well. Could this be the problem? Will purchasing ANYDVD to run in the background fix this problem, or do I have bigger issues? This only occurs when running Shrink on certain titles. HELP..... A NEWBIE

DVDShrink is very CPU intensive. Can you provide your system specs. Is your computer overheating? I had this experience in the past where when running shrink it would overheat and shut down.

Try putting a fan in front of it while doing the burning process. I do it to mine now always.

Have you taken the side panel off of the tower and blew air into it to get the dust out? This will also help.

Do nothing else while burning.

If it is a laptop, I would definately say that it is a heat issue. The CPU's and HDD in a laptop are known to run very hot. However, I have an HP laptop with an AMD Athlon64 3200+, which is designed for a tower and is supposed to make a laptop run very hot (or so I've read), but I've backed up many movies on it and have had no probs.

I'm just rambling and no really helping aren't I?

I know that that happens to me all the time LOL especially as age creeps up on me. My wife doesn't seem to mind, she like the conversation. :)

I have a pentium 4 in mine. I have backed up several movies with shrink before. I just can't figure out why it is shutting down on certtain ones. For instance, last night my wife used shrink and on "diary of a mad black woman" and it worked fine. Soon after it finished, I tried to shrink and burn "Mr & Mrs Smith and it shut down." Restarted the cpu this morning and tried shink again, same think happened.. power down. I can't figure it out, other than to try the fan over the weeked, or move where my laptop was placed (on a capret floor) but it was still on the floor when earlier burn worked???? Help/...aaaaaahhhhh

As stated earlier, DVD Shrink and other transcoders/encoders as well are very cpu intensive programs and will build a lot of heat from the cpu. I would definely get the laptop off the carpeted surface (find a hard surface such as table top or desk top) and would recommend putting a cooling pad under the laptop when being used for transcoding. You can find cooling pads at several different locals but here are some examples. http://www.coolerguys.com/noco.html
