I have used shrink successfully many times, but here lately, when I run it on certain movies, MR AND MRS SMITH most recently, it will analyze the disc and then begin to rip, but once it reaches a certain point, my cpu will power down. My trial of ANYDVD has recently expired. Is this the problem, or do I have bigger issues? Will purchasing ANYDVD to run in the background fix the problem? HELP PLEASE....... a newbie

I don't think AnyDVD is doing anything to your system.

Yes you should get it. It's worth it.

AnyDVD will DEFINITELY break the encryptions that Shrink can't handle so that Shrink will have unencrypted files to transcode, but your CPU powering down is another issue...

your cpu powering down may be just the discs fault. what does it exactly do, does it start copying the movie at one part and gets slower and slower at that part then it is just the disc fooling around with the ripper making it do wierd things and you should buy anydvd and dont forget to get 10$ off by entering afterdawn in the promotion code box.

Once it hits a certain point (i think in the encoding at a certain %) it just powers off, blank laptop screen. Definitely purchasing AnyDVD and trying again after work.

You have been given your answer - buy the bloody program or use an alternative such as DVD43.

Had power down problem that I found out was due to old burner that came with 3 yr old DELL. Even with firmware update kept going to Blue Screen shut down. Using USB 800N burner from TDK given to me by a friend (use with laptop when traveling which I do a lot) and new internal LG burner and NO PROBLEMS since. Bought AnyDVD and as I stated in another thread this is one of the best investments I've made.
Hope this helps in some way. Trying to give a little back to AD for all the fantastic help by a bunch of great people.

If your trial expired then the program is not working and you cannot get beyond the encyption probably causing the power down as stated buy the program, or use something else. Mr and Mrs Smith is an easy movie all the free programs will handle it.

Problems with the CPU shutting down during use of DVD Shrink is reported in quite a few threads and the usual cause is overheating, especially with laptops

PC Specs: P4 2.6Gb, 1Gb PC3200 RAM, NEC DVD-RW 1300A, DVD-ROM 16x, 80Gb HDD, 250Gb External HDD, XP Pro SP1.

Try placing a fan in front of the tower and see if that helps keep it cooler.

I do that to mine evertime that I do a backup.

Bought AnyDVD and placed the laptop on a hard surface while running. Worked like a dream. Still think I may invest in a laptop coller pad, but the problem seems solved. Thanks to all.
