hi buddy,
i've used both the Ritek Ridata DLs as well as the Verbatim DLs, while i have to admit i like the Verbatims MORE, that's NOT to say i haven't had my share of success with the Riteks~ :)
i've only used 2 kinds, as per my sig, but, i've had excellent results with both...you can naturally get the Ritek's cheaper, but, with these frequent sales locally, i would suggest getting the Verbatim 10-pack for $19.99 on sale~ :) Office Max/ Best Buy both had this sale little while ago, wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they have it again soon...$2/disc is ALL i will pay now PER DL disc~ :)
the Ritek DLs burn good on my Benq drive, but ironically, i get even better results w/ my older Liteon drive (Sony dru-710a, which as both you and i know is a Liteon SOHW-1633S), but, on my Benq 1640, the Riteks do NOT COMPARE to the Verbatims. i guess it's just the drive's preference, so i use the Ritek's on my Liteon and the Verbatim's on my Benq and Pioneer drives...my 2nd computer crashed and i fried the mobo and psu, so, won't be using my older Nec (3520a) and newer Liteon (1693S) drives for awhile~ :)
anyways, lot of people here complain about the quality of the Ritek coded DLs, i really don't know what the issue is because mine work just fine...but, as with everyone, we all have our individual setups that like or dislike certain media...a lot of times when people start the DL burning processes, their setup is not configured correctly and i believe a good portion of the issues is "user related/operator error"; so, take that into consideration when you read people's comments about Ritek DL being so poor...it works just fine for me, does that say i have a better system? no, it does not, it's just i have mine set up PROPERLY to do DL media successfully~:)
i personally feel that it's VERY important to have the appropriate firmware for your particular drive for DL media, as firmwares improve, i get better and better success :)
good luck w/ your decision

Thanks doc,
I'll wait untill the verbs go on sale. Unfortunately we do not have an office depot or best buy. All we have is a staples, walmart, and target. When they do go on sale I'll just have to order some and pay a little shipping. I'm going to Mississippi over the Xmas holiday so I'll do some shopping on the way. BTW when is TY going to come out with DL media?
I'm not real fond of ritek media anyway. I've had descent performance from their DVD+R media but poor results with their DVD-R media. As you know, I'm a verb man. Thanks again my friend and have a good weekend.
PS speak up if you hear of any verbatum DVD+R DL media on sale

will do... hehe :)
also, since speaking w/ my TY rep. here in North America, i was told that TY has no REAL intention to produce DL discs at this time or in the near future, while that may change if a demand for them became apparent, but at this time, that doesn't seem to be the case~ :)
so, i guess you'll just have to trust the Verbatim DLs, being a Verb man...they are simply some of the BEST DLs medias available today~ :)

I went ahead and ordered the verbs from newegg. I'm working on a project and going to try compressing 2 dvd9 episodic disc's (joined with dvdremake and a total of 14.4 gb) on to one DL dvd (7.95 gb actual size) useing rb pro/cce and imageburn. Wish me luck. BTW these DL verbs are rated at 6x. What speed do you recommend I burn them at?
Edit: nevermind I just realized my burner is only capable of burning DL dvd+r media at 2.4x so 2.4x it will be. How long will it take to burn a DL disc at 2.4x? 45 min.

Just curious, but what part of Mississippi? I grew up in Hattiesburg and attended USM. My wife and I both still have family in that area. I will be going to Mississippi around the first of Feb 06 to do some work (Navy).

tsquare43,
I'm going over between Tupelo and Pontotoc (spelling on both?)My moms sister (and family) live there and her mother and 2 brothers (and familys) live in Elaine Ar. about 25 miles from Helena Ar. I live in sw Ks. and it's about a 1000 mile trip. I'm sure we'll swing by Tunica or the casino at the Helena bridge. I'm 42 and divorced so I just go along for the ride and to see my kin. We go there once a year. Used to go twice a year but wer'e getting too old and too many responsibilitys at home.

Small world. I was born in Marvel, AR and my dad's family is from the West Helena/Forest City area. My Mom was born in Cleveland, MS. Haven't been back to the West Helena area since they put the bridge in a gazillion years ago. Last time I went, we caught the ferry from Friars Point to West Helena. Damn, that was a long time ago. Enjoy your trip and good luck in the casino!

No kidding small world. I didn't figure anybody had ever heard of Elaine (population under 800) but being born in Marvel you have. We go right through Marvel on the way to Elain from I-40 (Brinkly). Not much down/over there. The bridge has been there as long as I've been old enough to remember. You must have a few years on me. Happy holidays.

I just finished my second 25-pack of Ritek DLs from newegg (albeit the inkjet-printable ones). I had three bad discs which were located in succession in the middle of the stack. Just got an RMA from RitekUSA. Nice, but barely worth it since I only have 3 discs to send them and I have to pay for the postage! So, I've got a 94% success rate thus far with the Riteks.
On the other hand, I have 100% success with Verb DLs. Unfortunately, though the regular ones now seem to be availabe at 2 bucks a pop on sale, I've never seen a decent sale on the Verb inkjet-printables. Newegg doesn't even sell them :-( The best I've found for them varies, but here's a link for those of you who, like me, might be addicted to their Epson Rxxx printer. http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php?masterid=10581422&...

mrchub,
I would love to have some of those verbatum DVD+R DL printables as I to have an epson and primarily use verbatum DVD+R hub printable but just can't justify the price. I'll use a sharpie on the DL's for now.

@Mort81,
I hear you, but I love that damn printer so much, not to mention I assume that the Verb DL printables are the nice, smooth kind (similar to their single layer). I have now gone through about 150 TY hub-printables and maybe 200 Verb ones, and the difference is quite noticable on my R200. The TYs, though great discs, have a grainier surface which doesn't look as nice after printing, IMO.
But what I REALLY want is TY or Verb hub-printable DL discs. To date I haven't been able to find any hub-printable dual layer babies. I tell ya, it's tough to back up the Star Wars trilogy (or LOTR, etc.) on DL discs and then deface them with a Sharpie, though I've certainly done it myself more times than not!
