Hi, been away for a couple of days.

Go to Settings>control panel>System>Device Manager> find your cd/dvd drives and right click and uninstall the drivers. Reboot the machine.

If that does not work. Post your drive model and firmware versions.

Cheers.

Look for Flashmans Firmware Detect Firmware Version Tool.
Also has Nero InfoTool, which will tell you the firmware version and has more to say about your drives.

Then,

http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Firmware/SingleModel.aspx?DriveId=745
has firmware (latest August 2004

Here is the page where you can identify the latest firmware for your burner. Pay attention to the appropriate computer.

See if this helps
Open 'My computer',
click on the drive,
click properties
click on the recording tab

then,

"Enable CD Recording On This Drive"

When you open up the drives properties (drive D ?), there should be a row of tabs at the top, labelled:
General-Autoplay-etc,etc-Recording
Click on the 'Recording' tab then click on 'enable cd recording on this drive'

I think you are looking at system properties and hardware!!!

You should be on your desktop.
Right Click the icon 'My Computer'
'OPEN' my Computer
The 'My Computer' menu opens up showing all your drives
Right click on your problem CD then click 'properties'

Are you saying that it should read Drive:S?

Can you snapshot explore in windows and show me all the drives that you have?

If you have Roxio installed, look at this link.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q315350

Might also look at:
Start
Control panel
Administrative Tools
Services
IMAPI CD Burning
see if it's set to Automatic in properties
