Is it possible to burn a dvd by using dvd decrpyter only? First, you "read" the disc (ISO) and save it to your computer. After you save the files, you write them to a blank dvd. Would this work?

@bestmiller, have you actually read any guides that I have provided? All the relevent information you require is in these guides so for now I will say Have a Merry Christmas.

There is no short and sweet answer. The guides are long and thorough, but easy to follow. I think what you are looking for is for someone to hold your hand and walk you through every process to create a backup. Everyone in this thread have been more than patient, so please read the guides provided...if you still are having problems, don't hesitate to ask.

To answer your question, Yes.
Quote:

And no.

If you are using double layer discs to backup on, then the answer is yes. Rip to HDD using DVD Decrypter in ISO read mode. Then select the MDS file for the burn. Make sure that you choose the MDS file as it contains the layer break information.

If you are using single layer media to backup to, then the answer is no, unless of course the movie that you are backing up will fit to a DVD-5 without compression. Otherwise, you will need to compress the image that DVD Decrypter created in order for it to fit onto one DVD-5.

Please read the guides in my sig...or any other guides that have been provided for you, and post back on your success or failure. You will either be given praise for a job well done, or help to complete your project.

@Bestmiller,
I am just posting this one post. It seems to me what was said earlier by locoeng is correct, you want someone to hold your hand and tutor you in everything about computers/dvd backups. In my case, I wanted someone to do the same, but what I did was when someone gave a guide about a prog, I scanned it then started experimenting with the program. Usually, I was pretty good with what I was trying to do within a few days. I don't recommend that if you have a small budget, as I have gone through 3 dvd+-r/w/dl/rom/ combo drives and hundreds of discs. What I DO recomend is this:

1) Post relevent questions in relevent threads in relevent forums. (this thread was originally about dvd media and the best one(s) for your drive, now your asking about your new comps specs)

2) Take the advice that has been given by each member and write down the highpoints/links. (that way you have a perm. record should your computer unexpectedly crash etc..)

3) Follow the above mentioned advice as it was given and to the letter. (the purpose of the site, to my knowledge, is to help people figure out how do different things, not to tell them what to do)

4) Dont repeat/ask more questions until you have spent time reading AND following the guides/advice (and that wonderfull thing called experimenting... if you just keep asking how to do something over and over again, people will think all you want is handouts etc.. and thats never good to have as your rep.)

5) Then, after you have done all that, failed, take a break and try again. If still having trouble, then ask and you will be able to specify exactly what trouble you are having and will also have more knowledge about the process and therefor understand what people mean when they reply.

Happy Holidays

Do what you can while its still questionably Legal, before it becomes UNQuestionably ILLegal.

OMG shrink it?
Follow the guides for DVD Shrink, which may or may not be able to rip the Disk, and then shrink it. DVD Decryptor and then DVD Shrink may be necessary if Shrink alone can't rip. Save as image and burn with Decryptor, or save as file and burn with Nero.
Try the guides. As a "Junior Memeber" you must have stumbled across them before.

Maybe a double wash in hot water followed by Dryer cycle on maximum heat would cause enough Shrinkage. Do ya think?

@bestmiller, alas it seems it has come to the point where you are testing members patience. You are all over the place with your questions, I have provided guides for you to follw and it is obvious you havent read them. I suggest you PRINT THESE GUIDES and FOLLOW them, once you have done this and the problem still exists then come back for assistance.
Chialex has only posted once to this thread but can see what is obvious and has also offered good advice.
Tackle only one problem at a time and take things slowly and try to think a little for yourself, we will try to help but we cant do it for you.

Gwen:
What about the washer and dryer idea? For DVDs would you recommended the delicate cycle or the wash and wear?

Gwen:
By fast spin are you suggesting 16X? I have been doing my movies at 4x to avoid wrinkling of the double layer structure. Does "Advanced AZO" softener help any? Or, does it just come out in the wash?

Hey stay safe use -R DVD's for simple compatibility issues that might arise. As you may have already heard -R works in most older DVD players, but older could mean as recent as 2years ago and to most that would not classify as an old DVD player. But in the world of technology and as it relates to this topic a newly purchased player or being able to play your DVD media on a "older" dvd player makes a difference. So now thats out of the way. You want quality blank DVD media. I will not spend any time knocking any particular brand but both SONY & FUJI 8x -R DVD media are great quality and can be readily found on sale at Best Buy. I recommend if possible that you burn at 8x speed as the media disc suggest and burn using your burn programs "Slow Burn" for quality option. SONY's are currently on sale at BEST BUY 50 disc spindle for $14.99 Reg.$39.99 (That's 100 disc for a little more than $30.00).Again, I can't emphasize quality enough as you want the best results, so always use quality blank DVD media with whatever you choose. Check out www.videohelp.com for reliable user feedback on what disc media are favorites amongst DVD media enthusiast. Happy Burning.:)

@paradyme, welcome to this thread. Your contribution is appreciated but somehow I think it has all been covered somewhere in the last 3 pages.
We are experiencing a little difficulty however at relaying this information.

Yeah, We all have to cut our teeth and in the beginning, It's definitely hit or miss. What optical drive (Burner, What media, What software, What memory, What processor speed, What hard drive. It's all relative but not easy to disseminate. I give a little advice and the rest is hit or miss. There's alot of information here at the site. I say, Do search and do what works best for you.:)

i just kinda skimmed thru this thread (via gwen hitting my profile page) and it seems that all has been listed for you bestmiller, step by step guides too. even gave you links.

i will give you a rundown...

load movie to hard drive via dvdfab or if you have decrypter, then use shrink to shrink it, then reauthor your disk.

all the above proggies and links given to you are FREE.
there are millions of other methods and proggies available to you, and some are harder to understand then others.

shrink will do it all for you, crack encryptions, store, abn use a burning program of your chioce to burn with..

but i suggest you follow the links, the only way to learn is trial and error. these members did not learn over night, and it took countless hours to make the programs, much less take the time to type them all out.

when in doubt, look in the trash can for the instructions !!!

use the guides bestmiller.... they are there to help you, not so you can post question after question and have your hand held through out the process.

and if all else fails... use your search button, located at the top of every page !!
