I am trying to use DVD Shrink to backup a movie to a DVD+R DL disc. The capacity of the DVD+R DL is 8.5 GB so I have DVD Shrink set to no compression. I also set the Disc size to DVD-9 in preferences so it appears to work ok in DVD Shrink. However, when Nero (version 6) launches to burn the backup copy I get a dialog "Checking Discs" and then am told:
Sorry, your compilation cannot be written on this kind of disc. Please insert a disc of the correct type or modify the settings of your compilation to make them compatible with the current disc.
Media requested: DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW
Media detected in drive: CD-R (which is not true.. it is DVD+R DL)
Any suggestions?

What is your burner's model, when you last update firmware?

Have you restarted lately?
If you just installed new firmware, you may want to restart your computer. Some burners won't recognize new firmware until the machine is restarted.

Try doing the DL disc with DVD Decrypter, instead of Shrink and Nero.
Decrypter is all I use for DL's, and has worked flawlessly, every time.
Good luck!

I've done that... but what are you burning it with. I tried Nero and it still thinks I have a CDR in the drive.

Burn it with DVDdecrypter.
Are you sure of the model number of your Drive. The firmware page you referenced is for a DRW-3S163
You listed your drive as a DRW-S163 (I can't find that drive).
This sounds to me like a firmware issue as well.

I am having the EXACT same problem with a different DVD drive. I have the NEC ND-3520A. I have the most up-to-date firmware version 3.06 and I have the most up-to-date version of DVD Shrink. I have been searching all over the internet for somebody with the same problem. I don't know anything about this DVD Encrypter, but it seems to me that it is a DVD Shrink problem because DVD Shrink is the only consistent thing between us. Could somebody please explain to us where we should go about obtaining DVD Encrypter and how to use it?
Thanks.
