I recently dled Battlefield 2 and it came with a 1.91GB "mdf" file and a 4KB "mds" file... I have nero, and blank DVD's... what do I do? Do I use the "Burn Image onto disc" feature and pop in the blank DVD or is there something else I gotta do?

Thanks I burned the "mdf" file with a blank DVD because it was almost 2 gigs. Am I supposed to do anything with the mds file?? Because my game asks for a cd everytime I click it and I used a no-cd patch, now everytime I click it the screen goes black as if the game is about to start and then it returns to windows!!!

I was thinking maybe the mds file is used as a no-cd patch or something?? If not the problem might be my video card because BF2 has insane graphics and I only have a 128MB nVidia GeForce 6600 GT.

I'm guessin' the no-cd patch that you have isn't working, maybe you need another.

The .mds file is just a type of tag file that's used to mount a file to Deamon Tools or Alcohol, kind of like a .cue file helps mount a .img image.

hi

mds etc sounds like Blindwrite files aswell but forget that, by the sound of it it has SECUROM protection which needs emulation i think? sorry its been awhile on games for me, and alcohol has this feature try turning it on! also Blindwrite has an app for emulation of this type protection...

when i used to do securom with Blindwrite there is a third file thats made to make a better 1:1 copy as securom cant never be 1:1 only nearly...

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

yea, thats exactly what we meant. I've tried many NO CD patches, and non have worked, Im almost certain that is not the problem. Every other forum that I've looked at which has this screen blinking black problem talks about video cards and video resolution. I could be wrong but I am almost certain that this is the problem.

I've downloaded all the game updates and non of them fix this problem.

Thanks creaky for correcting that for me.

Welp cropa, the only thing I can think of is either you try virtually mounting the DVD with Deamon-Tools and see if it installs that way, or that copy of BF2 is not working right, and you should look for another. I had a problem similar to that with Quake 4. I also had a problem with Silent Hill 4, where it kept saying to insert disk 1, even though it was just a DVD and came with no CDs. Just try to find another copy of it, or ask a friend for theirs or whatever.

If Im online, Im usually on Steam:
