Only the dvd files actually play properly. The MPEG2 fies have no audio. I used DVD Shrink to rip the fies to the HDD player. What did I do wrong? What do I have to do to get it to work? I also tried with DVD Fab decrypter and the same mixture of dvd and mpeg2 files showed up on hdd player. Any help for this novice would be great, tks.

When ripping with DVD Shrink you should have an ISO image put to your HDD, which you in turn burn with either DVD Decrypter or Imgburn.

Tks. I'm not burning. Just choosing the Hard Disk Folder as the target device and then browsing to or creating a new folder on my HDD Player as the target location. When done, then plugging the hdd player into the TV to play the DVD. I get a mixture of what the hdd player is seeing as dvd and mpeg2 files and it's the latter that have no audio. Every file that says 'dvd' on the hdd player plays fine.

Never tried that...maybe try another transcoding prog like Nero to make DVD compliant files. That's about all I can think of.

Well, the Nero installer keeps saying the serial number has expired so I can't install that.
Further to my problems that I still can't find a solution to, On some DVD's the ripped files all show up in my hdd player as dvd files and the player can play the audio tracks with them on the TV fine. On the dvd's that it can't play the audio tracks for on some of the files, it's always once the file name gets over 1, e.g. VIDEO_TS, VIDEO_TS_0, VIDEO_TS_01_1 will all play the audio, but VIDEO_TS_01_2 will not. Maybe it is noteworthy also, that VIDEO_TS_02_01 will play the audio but, again, when it gets over 1 then it wont play audio: e.g. VIDEO_TS_02_02 wont play audio. HOWEVER, on some dvd's it no problem - can go any number and the audio plays, but on the problem dvd's it's the same problem all the time and I'm losing the plot trying different things with no success. PLEEEEEEEAAAAASE, can someone help? Surely I"m not the bigest idiot to hit town and someone has seen this problem before?

I recently downloaded both shrink and Nero. I used shrink to rip a dvd; then, a window popped up and asked me if I wanted to burn it. I did, but the backup dvd has no audio to it. What went wrong???

@adaysprin

Did you select the AC3 5.1 audio stream? That will be the audio for the DVD in most cases.

PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP?

The frustrating thing, apart from the DAYS I've wasted trying to get this &@$$*ing think to work is that the same files that will not play the audio with them on my TV will play in my real player dvdv playing software on pc. What the difference that's stopping these from plaaying on my TV via my HDD player? Here's what I've done: rip all files with DVD Decrypter to folder on pc, used InfoEdit to ensure the info files are pointing correctly, used DVD Shrink to back up the main movie title to my hdd player. It will only play the audio stream of the first of the VOB files when played on TV from hdd player, but I can play the same files from hdd player on my pc no problems. HELP ME PLEASE, I'M not seeing the wood for the trees anymore.

I've been having the same problem. I have several desktop computers that I've run DVD Shrink on, and they're all Win XP units. The only one that gives me the problem is the unit with Win XP Media Edition installed. Perhaps the good people at Microsoft added a little something extra to their media center edition to prevent us from backing up our DVDs?
