Hello. I have a fairly expensive Denon 2910 dvd player that is less than a year old. Movies that I've burned to single-layer dvds play fine in it. But recently, I bought a DL burner and some dual layer DVD+Rs and began burning movies on them. They seem to burn fine but most will not play in my Denon player. They seem to be loading and then the picture freezes and I have to turn the power off to remove the disc. This is very strange, since the same movie played flawlessly in a cheap JVC player from 1998. I'm using Nero to burn and have tried different brands of DL DVD+Rs (Memorex and Verbatim) with exactly the same problem. Anyone have the same problem and/or have any suggestions as to what might help. I updated the firmware for the Denon player and called their technical support and they said they need me to send them the disc so that they can test and analyize it and that it will be a long process. Very frustrating.
Thanks.

Are you putting labels on them? This can cause major headaches.

Are you booktyping to DVD-ROM? I would if I could. This will make them more playable in stand alone players.

Explain a little more about how they are not playing. What are they doing? Freezing, pixelating?

@impaler90, I have the Denon 2200 and I definitely booktype the +R DL media and it plays flawlessly everytime...if I don't then there are problems with the Denon, yet they still play perfect in the Sony's. Just wanting to help...I also only use Verbatims.

This is a new DVD-RW drive,so your denon may not like the +r DL backups from that particular drive.

What is the Brand name and model # of that Dual layer burner and also your older single layer burner?

Which version of Nero?

Nero6 can have trouble with the layer break and nero7 seems to have a lot of little bugs so far but it is suppose to take care of that layer break issue of DL backups.

Try another DL backup program like:
Dvd decrypter: Mode ISO read and Mode ISO write.
Dvdfab decrypter express.
Dvd decrypter/rip in Mode ISO/and burn with ImgBurn.

Changing programs is the first thing I would do.
Dvd decrypter is free and so it ImgBurn. Dvdfab decrypter express has a free trial, but seems to be a very easy DL backup program.

Booktyping is also called bit-setting. Only certain drives have this ability like Benq/plextor/lite-on/LG/Ricoh/Nu-Tech just to name a few. Some drives like NEC and pioneer need a special hacked firmware for this booktyping.Only the plus format can be booktyped!

Playing backups on stand alone players is where this booktyping comes in handy.A quality burner also comes in very handy. It's all about compatability. A normal, newer drive has the dual format of dash and plus. This booktyping actually gives you a third format to mess around. It actually fakes those stand alone/s into playing your backups, when the plus or dash format aren't recognized in those players. The booktyping alters the plus format and makes it so the stand alones think they are dvd-rom,the most compatable of all the formats.

If you play your backups on a lot of ps2s/x-box/stand alone players/and pc drives, the the booktyping really comes into play and more of those drives will be able to recognize them. If you only have 1 or 2 players, then the booktyping may not pan out, unless you get those no disc inserted errors in one of them.

What's your burner's brand name and model#?

Thanks, Saugmon, but I've never heard of booktyping either. The new burner is a Pioneer DVD R100. It got the editor's choice rating in PC mag, if that means anything. I don't remember what the model of the old burner was, but my stand-alone Denon plays all the single-layer dvds I've burned with the new model flawlessly. When it happends, the problem occurs only with the DL dvds, both Verbatim and Memorex.

I finally got a hold of someone at Denon tech support and he said that he's not supposed to offer support on the burning process and said he was certain that the problem is not the Denon since it only happens with certain DVDs. He said the only advice he could give me was to make sure to not have any other program open while I burn DVDs and to turn off all power-saving features on the computer. After taking nearly three weeks to respond to me he gave me nothing but attitude. Anyway, hope that clarifies. Let me know if anyone has any suggestions. I am a bit skeptical as to whether the booktyping thing will be a fix for me, but am willing to try anything at this point. Where Can i download it?
