I am using a trial version, but since a reg key will allow non-expiry usage, I assume it's not because it's a 'trial' as per say. Anyway I was doing a back-up and when I put in a DVD-R it treated it as a DVD-RW and 'erased' the media, destroying it. I tried a different brand of DVD and same as before. Is there an option to prevent this, or does it auto-detect the media (not always correctly I might add) automatically?

What do you mean when you say (destroyed the dvd), mine has
always started copying where it says (erasing), but since its not dvd-rw
that I ever use, it cant hurt anything. I havent ever seen a setting
to turn that on or off. Have you made copies using other programs
that work in your dvd player? Maybe try another brand of dvd media.
Maybe try DVD+R, I usually steer clear of DVD-R. Just my thoughts.

Change your preferences..
Click on preferences, and uncheck the box that says "Overwrite rewritable media" See if that helps.If I put in a DVD-R that has already been written to, it will come up with the dialoge box which asks to insert a blank disk.

Same here, if I put in a disc with something on it that is not an RW it will ask for a blank disc.

Not sure what is going on with yours.

Ummmm just curious but should we be helping peeps who are circumventing the purchase of Clonedvd by using reg key's??

Okay, just so you know, I'm not circumventing anything. This is just the trial version and I have 19 days left.

Anyway if I put in something this is written to, it ejects the disc. If I put in a blank DVD-R is 'erases' it and destroys the media with nothing. It's only this program that does it, so I assume my burner is otherwise working properly. And when I put the disc in explorer or something, there is nothing on the DVD so it is indeed 'erased'.

That box is indeed unchecked. So I am not even sure why it erased anything anyway?!? Maybe my computer has ghosts! lol. Anyway since it looks like I am the only one that's ever had this problem, maybe I have some strange combination of hardware that does this or something. I just use Clone DVD to rip the few discs that DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, AnyDVD, and Fab Decrypter won't rip. And don't worry, I will be at least be buying AnyDVD. I just haven't made up my mind about CloneDVD yet.

@Huricane1

Let me see if I understand. After ripping with CloneDVD and you put in a fresh blank DVD-R to burn a dvd CloneDVD initializes it saying erasing and then does not write the iso to the disc? Only Erases?

Bad install, uninstall and reinstall fresh download.
