Hey everyone! This is my first post here, although i have used dvd shrink for a while. I have just noticed whilst watching some of the dvd's that i have previously burnt, that they start to skip and then freeze. I use Nero to burn but it's all done thru shrink. Not sure what brand of disks i use. Not all of them do this, but quite a few so i was wondering if someone could answer the following questions!

1. What is the best brand of disk to use?
2. What is the difference between DVD R+ and DVD R- and which is best?
3. What speed should i be burning at?
4. What the hell is compression and how do i know what to set it at?
5. What are the best settings to set all of my Shrink settings at?

Thank you guys - sorry about my dumb and trivial questions - remember - NEWBIE!!!!

Merry Christmas,
Kell.

Thanks for your help....god knows i need it!!!

First off let me tell you that nearly all of this can be found if you just searched via search bar at top of page. I will answer this but just to let you know.

1)Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. Sony and Fuji are fine as long as they are made in Japan, why? Because if they are made in Japan then they are Taiyo Yuden.

2)Nothing, it's just a matter of compatibility. And w/ DVD+R you can booktype (change a disc to DVD Rom, the universal booktype accepted by all players), but if you can't then DVD-R is more compatible w/ most players. Older players and game systems will sometimes not play DVD+/-R.

3)4x ,experiment w/ 8x or 6x but 4x general acceptance.

4) YOu are using a DVD5 which is 4.something gigs, a store bought DVD is a DVD9 and is about 8gigs. YOu need to compress it to fit. The less compression the better the quality.

Here is a link to a good Shrink guide, will explaing nearly everything

http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/tutorial012.html

This'll take awhile to load.

@ Kellzie

Don't post your email in the threads. Spam bots would love to get a hold of it. Use the private message feature its more private.

Good direction from those who have responded. You'll do okay with this information. I would add - don't use paper labels on your backups as they too will cause freezing and pauses. Use a sharpie pen or go to lightscribe disc and print the pix.

I would recommend editing your post to remove your email address. Click the edit image at the top right of your post and you can remove it.

cheers.
