Hi there,

I made some vcds once, for that I converted .avi to .mpg because the mpg can be used for the vcd. I used TMPGEnc plus 2.5 for that. However I found out that the mpg file got less quality then the avi. It's less sharper, it shocks like every second and it looks just different then the avi one (you have to see it yourself). If you know what I mean, can I change the options so the converted mpg will have the same quality as the avi file? If so, can someone help me out with this?

Thanks a lot

You can always try other programs (e.g. Winavi, Power Video Converter, X Video Converter).

Good luck!

Any time you convert from one format to another you'll lose at least a little quality. If you're converting to VCD (ie low resolution/low bitrate MPEG-1) you'll usually lose quite a bit. If you need to stick with VCD format you can try using the MPEG header trick (a forum search should find useful information on that) to make most standalones that play VCD play SVCD (medium resolution/somewhat low quality MPEG-2), but that will still give you a final product that will usually be noticeably lower quality than the original.

No. DVD Shrink only works with DVD files - it doesn't encode. Depending on the final format desired there are a number of programs that can encode (and author). Do you actually need VCD format or will SVCD or DVD work for you?
