**NOTE: this is for those that have tried AnyDVD, DVDFAB Decrypter or DVD43 or other methods, and it has failed only.

Here's the method I used and it works 100%, yes... you hear me, a full disc GUARANTEE to work. If you do as follow, then you DON'T/WON'T even see that "annoying FBI Warning" as well, I blank that sh!t out too.

I ripped it with DVD Decrypter via Mode, File F successfully. Then use VobBlanker to "blank" out PGC #2 from VTS_01_*.VOB and PGC #1 --> #5 of VTS_02_*.VOB, then PROCESS went smoothly. Encoded with Nero Recode 2, and burned with Nero Burning Rom easily.

For those that can not backup "The Brothers Grimm". I don't know, but I'm guessing there's some sort of bad sectors or encrypted protection (something very similar to Macrovision's RipGuard).

**Tools need: DVD Decrypter, VobBlanker and DVD Shrink or Nero Recode 2 (your choice of preference). Here's what you need to do:

** get free VobBlanker here http://members.aol.com/posunplugged/jsoto/VobBlanker_2010_exe.zip

**NOTE: before ripping the movie with DVD Decrypter, go to your C: drive or Hard drive, make a folder name NEW_BROTHERS GRIMM and make a sub-folder name VIDEO_TS inside "NEW_BROTHERS GRIMM", then Exit out.

1) rip the movie with DVD Decrypter via MODE, File F into your hard drive. Once it's completed, exit out.

2) open up VobBlanker: (A) set your "input = source" this is your files that was ripped by DVD Decrypter earlier. (B) set your "output = destination"<-- browse to your hard drive and look for NEW_BROTHERS GRIMM, VIDEO_TS, click Open/OK

3) (A) click on VTS_01_*.VOB, now "BLANK" out PGC #2 on the bottom window. (B) click on VTS_02_*.VOB, now "BLANK" out PGC #1, PGC #2, PGC #3, PGC #4 and PGC #5. (C) Once these are marked BLANK, click "PROCESS". That's it.... now sit tight and wait for VobBlanker to process and filter out all those junks until it's completed. VobBlanker should take somewhere like 10 - 15 minutes only.

4) open up DVD Shrink, click Open Files, browse to your newly created folder NEW_BROTHERS GRIMM, VIDEO_TS and perform your usual steps of shrinking. That's it.... easy as sippin' on some Hennessey.

Good luck... happy burning!! Teach and learn.

For what it is worth I had some trouble with this one last night as well. My solution was to rip an ISO using DVD Decrypter and burn with Nero. I tested the DVD after and all is well.

Normally I use Shrink and Nero or Shrink and CopyToDVD.
This one produced a CRC errors when I used Shrink when the disk was being opened. I tried in all 3 systems I use for burning and the result was the same in each. I ran CDCheck against the DVD and sure enough CRC in the first VOB. I tried DVDfab after this and this just bombed right off with an unrecoverable error. Next I tried DVD Decrypter to file. During the process it squaks... "blah blah VOB is not supposed to be encrypted but it appears it is with blah blah." The info. message even staes this is odd, lol. So you get the option to attempt decryption or not. I choose yes and the process continues.
Then when I loaded the files into Shrink it bombed. Something about VOB 1 contains data that should not be there. I played around with DVD Decryper settings and tried a few more to file. What ultimately worked was creating an ISO not a file.

Good luck

Alkohol,
Thank you very much for your great instructions for Brothers Grimm. It seems that this type of protection is being used more often. In general, how do you determine what to blank?

When you open The movie via VOB Blanker, you highlight the VTS_VOB files and on the bottom it will show you the PGC's.... Take a close look at those PGC's in the VTS_1_VOB, you will notice that the first one is like more than an hour long, it might be like this : 01:58:23:14. there are 4 sections, hour, minute, seconds, millisecs.
Now take a look at the ones below the main one. You'll see that they are not even a minute long. They are like 00:00:01:12 or something similar..These are the bad sectors or "dummy files". All you need to do is blank them out, process and it will recopy the files without those sectors on it, that way DVD Shrink can read them without a problem. There is another program called PGC Edit which alkohol mentioned to us in a past thread that can help you identify the bad sectors so you can take note of them and blank them with VOB blanker. It will usually tell you in which VOB file the dummy sectors are located at. I just got done processing Brother's Grimm and the Great Raid with this method and it works flawlessly. Also DVD Decrypter by itself may or may not let you decrypt the dvd to the hard drive in which case Slysoft AnyDVD steps up for the help.Hope you find this useful. Happy Backing.

DVDRipGuy is right; AnyDVD 6.6.3.1 worked great with DVD Shrink when trying to backup The Brothers Grimm. I was trying AnyDVD 5.1.0.1 on my first attempt and was only receiving an error.

@Kris29

You should not be getting any errors at when using VobBlanker, if you ripped the movie with DVD Decrypter using MODE, File F into your hard drive.

The method I provided works 100% for any dvd movies that has RipGuard protection. However, to "BLANK" out which "VTS.XX.*.VOB" and "PGCs" may be varied (or to be determined) with different dvds, but that shouldn't be hard. PgcEdit usually tells you which VTS that carried the bad sectors (bad protected sectors or junks) when you ripped the movie with DVD Decrypter via MODE, File F or DVDFAB Decrypter.

Do you have any other cracking engine ie DVD43, AnyDVD, DVD Region+CSS Free running in the "background" while you're using VobBlanker? You need to "turn off" or "disable" DVD43, AnyDVD or any cracking engines running in the background when using VobBlanker, or else they will conflicts with VobBlanker when processing.

**NOTE: before ripping the movie with DVD Decrypter, go to your C: drive or Hard drive, make a folder name NEW_BROTHERS GRIMM and make a sub-folder name VIDEO_TS inside "NEW_BROTHERS GRIMM", then Exit out.

**NOTE: "input" or source is the VIDEO_TS file that you successfully ripped earlier with DVD Decrypter on your hard drive. "output" is going to be your new folder aka NEW_BROTHERS GRIMM, then click VIDEO_TS and Open/OK <--- this will be your newly created folder by VobBlanker that you're going to encode/transcode or shrink with DVD Shrink.

You don't just PROCESS or BLANK VTS.01.*VOB only. You need to: (A) click on VTS_01_*.VOB, now "BLANK" out PGC #2 on the bottom window. VobBlanker should take somewhere like 10 - 15 minutes only."

Again, just re-read my mini guide, follow them closely and I GUARANTEE 100% that you'll be able to have a successfully working "full disc" in due time. If you do it right to as what I've provided, then you'll be happy that VobBlanker took care of that annoying "FBI Warning", yes.... I blank that sh!t out too.

**NOTE: the method I used works, I've already tested and watched my backup and it plays flawlessly on 2 of my standalone dvd players.

Good luck... and happy burning!!!!

I DON'T HAVE ANY OF THAT RUNNING IN THE BACKGROUND THE ONLY THING I SEE IS THE THING TRY'S TO LOAD IT ON THE STATUS SCALE AND THE THE ERROR POPS UP SAYING
ERROR:REFERENCE MENU EMPTY OR DOES NOT EXIST IN VIDEO_TS
WHAT ABOUT WHEN IT LOADS THE FILE IN THE INPUT FOLDER IT LOADS IT AS VIDEO_TS.IFO.
DOES THE "IFO" MATTER IF SO WHAT DO I NEED TO CHANGE ON THE DECRYPTER WHEN THIS OCCURS. CAUSE SERIOUSLY I HAVE FOLLOWED ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS AND SAVED TO HARDDRIVE IN MODE "FILE" AND THE I MADE THE NEW FOLDER LIKE YOU SAID, AND THE WHEN I ENTER THE DECRYPTED FOLDER INTO THE INPUT IN VODBLOCKER I GET THE MESSAGE. I THINK THIS HAS TO BE A SETTING OR SOMETHING, THIS IS KILLING ME I USALLY GET THIS STUFF BUT THIS TIME I'M LOST. ANYBODY ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM OR AM I THE ONLY ONE IN THIS WORLD WITH THIS SCREW UP.

Hmm....well my update is odd....dvdshrink ripped and burned with dvd43 running in the backround...but when the movie burned to disk, it is missing the first chapter, about the first 11 minutes. (I thought it may be a fluke, but same thing happened when I tried again...first time I reauthored, second time I didnt)
Ive never had this problem before, Ive backed up my ENTIRE DVD collection (about 100 movies) and never got a coaster or run into this before...

*le sigh* who knows??

Hello..Not to name,names..But some of us are a little more fortunate then others.Especialy when it comes to DVD releases.I have a friend who works for one of those Rental places,he gets the DVD's 2wks before they go on the shelf..example being I had Dark Water a WEEK BEFORE xMAS,it's due for release Tomorrow 12/27.So maybe jmpnjve had the Movie. But any who, here of late I've been useing CloneDVD LATELY WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS
As far as any Quality issues go I've not noticed any.One thing that is noticeable,is the Speed. It only took 32mins to rip & burn
