Many people experienced this problem time & again. Often it's the disk problem but sometimes the drive is to blame. Nothing is forever especially DVDROM & DVDRW drives. They got worn off quite fast. I am in the video editing business & my PC have 5 DVDRW drives - 4 internal & i external. Many times when I backup my DVD disk, I faced this cyclic problem in one drive but it works in another drive. So I make it a habit to rotate my drive usage. If you are using a single drive, try to get another one & that will solve the problem.

I agree with semid13. Many a times have I tried to backup one of my DVDs that I encountered the same type of problem. Even after trying to rip it from 3 different burners. Sometimes all it is is just a hairline scratch that is barely noticible, but at an angle you can see it as plain as day. The only way I could copy the title is borrow my friend's copy (which incidently he bought as well) and copy his successfully.
