I just reformat my 'C' drive last weekend & reload WinXP Pack2. I do this every 3 months or when my System slows down. I added a new 200Gb HDD with 3 partitions - 2 partitions strictly for DVD backup. I have 2 other 120Gb HDD & 5 DVDRW for my video editing business. Now DVD Shrink is the only software I used. I do not have AnyDVD installed - I don't feel the need for it. So far this week, I have backup 'War of the worlds' 'Left Behind_World at War' 'Mr & Mrs Smith' 'Mask of Zorro' & 'Fantastic 4' No problem encounter. From my experience with video editing, you need a clean & totally defrag HDD to produce DVD successfully. I defrag all my HDD once a week. In addition I do a boot-defrag on my 'C' drive once a week too. I empty the 'Temp' folder daily. When doing capturing of video or backup of DVD, I will shut down my network connection, antivirus & anti-spyware to prevent any interference or interruption.

i can tell you that, no of that is going to help when you try to backup a ripgard movie like madagascar. you will need AnyDVD or fabdecrypter.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

Besides DVD Shrink, I still uses DVD Decrypter, XCopy Platinum but DVD Shrink is always the first to use.
I backup 'Madagascar' using DVD Decrypter & burn to a DL disk & used DVD Shrink to open the DL disk & compress to a normal DVDR. That is the only movie so far that I could not rip with DVD Shrink alone. Only when I really hit the wall then I will use AnyDVD.

I think you are right for a 1:1 backup on a DL disc.
