I'm using DVD Shrink 3.2 on my own machine (Win XP) with no problems. In fact, after I got the latest version, I no longer have to rip with DVD Shrink and then open Nero to burn. Now, once the ripping is complete, Shrink opens the DVD burner's tray, prompts me to pop in a blank DVD and it starts to burn atuomatically. Nifty!!

I installed the identical version on my SIL's machine (XP Media Center) with virtually identical option settings. Not only will it refuse to prompt me to burn automatically like mine does, but I can't even get her Nero to burn the ripped files. I don't recall the exact error message, but I've exhausted every option available, all without success.

She has Nero Express and Nero Vision Express, while I have Nero Smart Start (Nero 6). When I used to have only Nero Express, it ripped fine but didn't do the actual burning.

What could possibly be the difference between her machine and mine that it allows me to burn, but not her? And allows me to have this mysterious auto-burn function? Is the presence of Nero Smart Start 6 the thing that's making the difference?

Thanks to whoever wants to take a stab at this.

Can you provide some system spec for the other machine? DVD burner model and firmware version.

MsSoprano,
Welcome to the forum. Make sure in Preferences > File I/o that you have "enable burning w/ Nero" that has a checkmark next to it. Shrink does not care which version of Nero you have as long as you have the Burning Rom installed and the version is above 5.5.10

We really need you to post the exact error message you get as that will help us try to help you properly

Double check the enable burn with Nero in that File I/O setting like car.mike posted. Another setting to double check is in your backup options.

As soon as you click backup, the screen with the tab target device will pop up. Click select backup target and make sure the burner drive model# is listed,as well as burn with Nero.Should be a check mark by the burner model# in that line. This will enable Nero to autoburn with Nero through DVD Shrink. Make sure it doesn't say create hard disc files or ISO image files.

I've just got the Nero express 6.0.0.21b and she auto burns with DVD Shrink perfect. I've got dual drives on 2 pcs,and no more waiting around for the original disc to spit out and swap with blank.

Does the other machine burn any dvds at all?

Hi, thanks for the replies and my aplogies for not getting back to this thread sooner -- my main computer has had a coronary that's been taking up most of my time.

You are exactly right, saugmon -- the backup target device is where it's hanging up. Instead of being able to point it to the DVD Burner (which is how mine is set up) it automatically wants to SAVE the file, the DVD Burner is not listed in the drop-down list.

I went so far as to go along with the save option and point it to the DVD Burner drive, but that wouldn't work either. I was finally able to get one burned using Record Now, but it took 2 discs, which has never happened to me before, even though I had all files except the main title fully compressed and I took the extra languages out.

But yes, the burner itself works just fine, she's done burnings with it by using other burning software, as I mentioned. For whatever reason, DVD Shrink won't recognize her burner.

And yes, the Burn with Nero option is enabled.

Maybe I've missed something here, but in shrink do you have enable burning with Nero checked?

When I use shrink it does not need to recognize the burner just the target to put the ISO. When its done with its thing it opens the burn program which does need to know the target burner and burns the ISO.
