I need to know what some of you have found acceptable for compression levels in nero recode or shrink in converting dvd-9 to single layer dvd-5 dvd. I would like to still have excellent video quality to watch on my 55 inch LCD TV. All opinions are appreciated as I try to set my own tolerance levels for compression.
 Thank You,
 Kevin

I've tried up to almost 50%, quality still acceptable. But usually I'll just settle for about 20-30%.

have done alot of research on this forum and have purchased dvd rebuilder PRO for anything that needs compressing more than 20%. Seems like this program is the clear winner for quality, thank you.

I agree. I usually don't go any lower than 75% with Recode myself. However, if it has a bitrate at or near 7 kbps, compression as low as 60% with Recode still produces a flawless output. I view a 52" widescreen HDTV... I use RB/CCE for high compression encodes...

In query to Nero Recode 2, for best quality I used/checked on "Advanced Analysis" and "Slow Mode". With those 2 settings, I watched all of my backups on my 55" SONY HDTV and I can't tell any differences between the original and my backup (*NOTE: I only used genuine Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and Maxell (Hitachi - made in japan) and I only burned them at 4X). Overall, I'm satisfy with the quality that Nero Recode 2 produced. See picture for more details.

							another quick question please:
I notice after running DVD-RB with CCE that the audio is even compressed some, is this normal?. I dont want to lose anything on the audio portion at all for my surround sound.

 Thanks in advance

Do you still need to go to the video tab, &

select best quality to main movie,if you're just doing Main Movie only ?

That's mainly your choice, you can either leave it or use it - it won't hurt to enable/use it though. I usually use it, just to double check and make sure Nero Recode 2 is giving me the best quality on Main movie. I don't really care extra stuff, previews, etc. I do keep the menu though.
