Having trouble copying my copy of "The Island". It seems like it locks my whole computer up sometimes. But my DVDFab won't even startup with the movie in the rom. Anyone else having troubles with this movie or is maybe that I might just have gotten a bad disc?. Thanks for the input in advance guys.

Could be as you suggested, a bad press. Are you getting an error message or does your PC just lock up? If you are getting an error message please post it.

No error message, just locks up. I'm thinking it's the disc, it has some scratches on it even though the movie just came out yesterday, but non-theless it should still work, they are not that bad of scratches.

I used DVDFab and then dvdshrink. Then burned with Nero. Perfect copy. You might have a bad copy. Weird things is I couldn't find an english 5.1 but there was a french 5.1 so I opted for the english 2 channel audio.

The Island has no special protections whatsoever. I ripped it with DVD Decrypter via Mode, File F successfully into my hard drive. Have Nero Recode 2 encoded with "Advanced Analysis" and burned with Nero Burning Rom flawlessly.

Quote: But my DVDFab won't even startup with the movie in the rom.
Does this mean that DVDFab won't open, or that it won't rip the disc?

Ok, so burning it wasn't a problem, but what's with the Audio?
How can it only have French 5.1 and English 2.0? Even the case (And original packaging) says it has English 5.1.
Is it possible that there is a problem with a whole batch ot these DVD's? The UPN is 94777. Anyone have one with a different UPN?
I tried another disk from Blockbuster and then even checked out Rogers and they all appear to be the same.
Strange.

from what i am to understand only the canadian editions of The Island have a problems even though the pakaging says 5.1 english its is not in 5.1 english only 2.0 But it seems that the french IS in 5.1 for some reason i dont know if all of them are like that but i seems that most are i returned mine to futureshop( a canadian division of best buy) and had no problems got a full refund so i'm just gonna buy an american pressing of the island off ebay cause or something i dont know if dreamworks is aware of this or not i did not try to back it up because dd 2.0 c'mon whats the point

Thanks, Makes sense. I was thinking of trying Future Shop or Best Buy and actually having the guy upen the box and drop it in a DVD player to make sure it had the 5.1 English.
Sounds like it won't so probably no any point in it. I have never heard of anything FUBAR'd ever happening before. What a mess to clean up.
Cheers

ya i just went and bought one off ebay ive heard that the pakaging is wrong and not the dvd 2.0 was the way it was intended to be!? wtf
i hope this is wrong and some people have got the pakaging where is says english 2.o so i dont know whats going from what i read there isnt going to be a recall but this is either a really stupid decision or shoddy quality control by universal/dreamworks i found that this site had the most info about it

can someone please help me....
i just got an archos av500 pmp.....i have copied tons of movies to it using DVD Decrypter and fairuse to convert the iso file to xvi so that i can upload it to the archos.
As far as "The Island", i made a success full copy to a DVD-R using first, dvdfab, and then shrinking with dvdshrink and then finally burning with dvddecrypter.
my quesiton is this....how do i use fairuse with the island ...what steps should i take before i use fairuse and in what format should the file be saved so that fairuse will recognize it...
thanks in advance.

You need to set the target size in DVDShrink to 4300. It will work then.

Also when using shrink and then directly burning with Nero how do u set the maximum burn speed of Nero. I know how to do it when burning an ISO file but not in the direct burn mode.
Thanks
