Can anyone help me with my problem with decrypter? I've been backing-up movies for a while now using Shrink and Decrypter and it's been working great. Now all the sudden after encoding when it starts to burn with decrypter it goes to an error that says:
Failed to reserve track!
Reason: Cannot Write Medium - Incompatible Files
Anyone know what this means and how to fix it? I would love some help with this.
Thanks!

This could be a media/firmware issue. What DVD-RW drive do you have and what firmware version?
What kind of media are you using? Brand and write type and speed.

My DVD drive is the <NEC IDE DVD Burner-Model ND-3550A>
And the firmware version?
The DVD discs that I'm using for now are Memorex DVD-R 16x.
I have used these many times in the past though.
Is that the info. you was asking for?

@inarut
Memorex - well in one word sucks. They are very inconsistent even with ones from the same spindle. They are usually made by poor quality manufacturers - your just paying for the name. They also are known to degrade. Switch to the good stuff like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim - great quality and few if any burn issues.
Make sure you are not burning at 16x - with these I would recommend 4x or lower.
To check your firmware in decrypter go to: Tools>Drive>Check for Firmware Updates. You'll receive a pop up giving you your version and saying linking you to rpc1.org. Click ok and see if there is an update.

What movie are you trying to backup and how fast did you burned? Sounds like media issue to me.

I am having the same problem - using the same Memorex DVD's. These have worked for me for well over a hundred movies and I've attempted on several discs from the spindle and receive the same error message.
Inarut - have u resolved ur issue and if so, how? I originally thought my issue was with DVD Decrypter, so i uninstalled it and reinstalled ImgBurn and AnyDVD...still with same end results...same error.

Is your firmware up to date on your drive? This will help if it's a issue w/ 16x media which is somewhat new. More than likely your getting this error due to your choice of media. Run one of the discs thru decrypter and post back the manufacturer id.

Check here: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_result.php?kaj=1&isces
Latest firmware as of Oct 05 is 1.05, but I know that there are others out there. I will find it tomorrow and post the link.
Cheers - it's at CD freaks. I think it is 1Y4rpc. I will get back to you.
Cheers.
PS I have this drive ordered. :)

i think i figured the problem out .. i was trying to use 16x DVD-R's (Memorex) whereas I've been using 8x DVD-R's (Memorex) I found an 8x lying in the desk and it worked fine ... so it was a media issue.
Thanks for all ur help...

@kk179, having success with memorex you are the exception to the rule, most problems are related to memorex media. May I suggest that your next media purchase be Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden. Burn at a slow speed, around 4x seems to be ideal.

When I went to Staples to get new DVDs...i spoke with the sales rep, who knows about DVDs as he knows rocket science - his own admission...REALLY gained my confidence. Anyway, he told me that the problem is probably one of two things...
1) The DVD burner needs an upgrade of it's firmware...he told me how to do this an i can accomplish -or-
2) The software I'm using is incapable of running 16x discs...is this a possibility? I JUST downloaded ImgBurn yesterday, so I'm assuming that it's the most current.
I don't dispute that Memorex discs are less than wonderful quality, but I've never had anything other than success with them. This has been my only issue with them but was immediately rectified when changing from a 16x disc to an 8x disc. The sales rep told me that almost all the manufactures are getting away from 8x due to the increased speeds of the burners today...he said soon, the 8x will be as obsolete as the 4x. Which means that I either need to upgrade the firmware to my driver, or ImgBurn is incapable of handling that - which i believe is highly improbable.

I searched that site and found my specific drive, NEC ND6500-A but the most current firmware update is from, i think, November 2004 which is before the date of purchase...is it still benificial to download that update?
