Is there anyone out there that has had any luck burning a movie to the DL media? I have a plextor 740a and use shrink to decode, in dvd-9 mode, and Nero6 to burn. Tech is no help as they say it can't be done. Have tried Ritek +/- dl's and also Verbatim +/- dl's with same results ...coasters. Firmware and nero software are up to date.Any ideas? I've been using Ritek -R's in my plextor single layer for a couple of years and wanted to upgrade to get a better quailty movie. Thanks in advance.

Your plextor is a re-badged benq 1640. An excellent high quality burner. You may want to try the plus format of dual layer media.Seems like stand alones have a harder time reading dl media, and booktyping the plus format to dvd-rom may come in handy some day.Just something to remember.

Nero 6 isn't a highly recommended program for burning dual layer media. It has trouble with the layer break. Nero 7 is suppose to take care of that issue, but I see a lot of issues with this new version.

Try DVD Decrypter using Mode ISO read to hard drive-remember where those files go. Then Mode ISO write, locate those mds files and burn. This is one of the simplest programs for a 1:1 copy, when no compression is needed.

Another option would be is rip with DVD Decrypter in mode iso, then use imgburn to pull out the mds files and burn. IMGburn is nearly identical to DVD Decrypter. It has the same author,LightningUK,but doesn't rip. It's said to be a better dl burning program.

Dvdfab decrypter express is also a nice dual layer backup program.

Thanks for your response Saugmon. I tried your ideas and got a good burn using DVD Decrypter with the verbatim DVD-R dl's. I tried verbatim DVD+R dl's and ritek DVD+R dl's with no luck. The plus r's got about 17 to 25 percent in and had a secter error. I have access to 4 dvd players and the only one that the verbatim DVD-R DL wouldn't play in was the $25 apex. A more expensive apex and a couple of phillips had no problem with them. I even tried to burn the +r dl's with IMGburn with no luck. Any more ideas for the +r dl's would be appreciated, but at least I can burn the minus dl's now and I know that my burner is a good one and works. Thanks...

All 3 of my benqs love the verbatim 2.4x+r DL. I had to purchase a cheap magnavox -walmart special- player to play those dls.

I usually use DVD Decrypter in Mode ISO for dual layers.I haven't tried the the IMGburn program from LightningUK,but will one of these days. I did use dvdfab decrypter express and it seemed very good during it's free trial.

ok, thanks. It might just be that this plextor just will work with verbatim only. Maybe a new firmware in the future will fix that problem. With my single layer plextor & sony, until firmware came out, they would only burn verbatim reliable, Now there are 4 or 5 that they will burn reliably. Thanks again...
