Is it possible to load an ISO with CloneDVD and compress it to fit on a single DVD+R? The reason that I'm asking is because I just purchased a new hard drive for the purpose of storing ISO files of my personal movie collection.

rack04--
Not sure if I understand the question--But CloneDVD2 will give you a VIDEO_TS file (which can be stored and burned later)--It also already compresses the file to 4.38 GB--You can create an ISO image through DVD Decrypter or the new Image Burn program--both create ISO files for burning--I use both depending on movie, but I store quite a few with CloneDVD2 VIDEO_TS files for later burning--does that help?

Yes, you can burn ISO's with CloneDVD2.

There is a guide for use in my signature block.

Cheers.

Whitfield,

I want to store the complete unaltered movie as and ISO image and use CloneDVD to load the ISO and compress when I need a backup.

No problem at all--just follow the directions 9mmruger1 has in his signature for AnyDVD and CloneDVD2--if you have any problems, come back

You can just use DVDDecrypter to create the ISO--Do you know how to use that? If not, lots of tutorials here and I have a couple in my sig--we can walk you through it if you need it

Yes I know how to use DVD Decrypter to create the ISO. I was just looking for confirmation that I will be able compress that ISO, using CloneDVD, to fit on a single DVD+R. I just thought that if one were to store a DVD on a hard disk the best way was an ISO because it is an exact copy. That way if in the future you needed to create a backup you have still have an exact copy saved.

rack04--You are right--sounds like a good idea--plus, if you ever want to make a direct 1:1 copy on a dual layer disk, you will be able to--I think I will do that from now on! But, to answer your question--Yes, you can then compress and burn the ISO with CloneDVD2

Sorry for the double post but I can't seem to find a way to open an ISO using CloneDVD. Can anyone give some advice?

Just open the CloneDVD2 start page and at the bottom of the window on the right side it says "Write Existing Data"--click on that and it will go to the next screen which has ISO files on the top right of the page--Haven't done it that way for a while, but just follow the instructions or use the help function of the program--Good Luck!

I tried what you said but this only allowed me to write the ISO. I wouldn't allow me to modify the ISO to take out things like audio tracks, extras, etc. The only way that I was able to get this to work was to mount the ISO using Virtual CloneDrive and then use CloneDVD to remove extras.

OK--well at least you got what you wanted, right? I was thinking, you could also use DVD Shrink under the re-author mode and remove unwanted extras

Yeah, but that way you lose the menus. So far, the method I've discussed in this thread seems to work fine. Thanks for all your help.
