I'm using a Penium4, 530 with HT, 3Ghz, 800FSB, 756DDRW SDRAM@400
Mhz. Operating system is XPHome with SP2. 80G HD.
The programs I'm using are Shrink and Nero 6.6Ultra(loaded only
Nero6 & Vision Express). Also dnlded the patch from Nero.
Using Shrink I create an ISO file on my hard drive. Then I burn
with Nero Smartstart. When I burn an entire copy, I get a disk
that plays fine on the computer with the Nero program. It will
not play with my Power DVD. On my two stand alone DVD players
(one is Coby and the other Memorex) the disc will play for
approximately 1 1/2 hours and then freeze up. On the Memorex I
can restart at the scene it froze at and it will play the rest
of the movie. When I try to reauthor and copy only the movie, I
get a disc that is not recognized on my computer or either player.

This sounds to me like a target size and speed of burn issue on questionable media.

Set the target in Shrink to 4300, burn at 4x and see what happens.

What media are you using? Brand and type?

I have an 8 times burner. I always set the size at less than
4300 and burn at 4 times speed. I've been using Sony DVD-R and
HP DVD+R. Both are 8 times discs.
The one time I got a successful movie only-on a Sony disc, I had
read the ISO file with Nero Recode to create a second file. Could I be having some sort of problems with software conflicts? Or could it be that the ISO file is in the wrong format for Nero?
I have an old version of Roxio on my machine. It only does CD's.
My ISO files always say they are a CD Creator file.
For a year I used XCopy on another machine and never had a problem.
I'm new at this Shrink and Nero and am ready for a straight jacket.
Thanks for your help--you don't know how much I appreciate it!

Try burning your ISO image with a free program called ImgBurn, you can get it at ImgBurn.com. It's easy to use and creates perfect dvds, just remember to keep the write speed at 4X and your DVD should play on any recent set top player.

Tried the Imgburn with a Shrink written ISO file (movie only)on an
HP 8X disc. The result was perfect.

Did some further tests. Wrote a complete movie to ISO. Burned 2
discs-1 with Nero and 1 with Imgburn. Nero played on the computer
in Nero Showtime fine. On a stand alone is had same old problems
after about 3/4 of movie. The Imgburn played fine on the computer
usins Power DVD. It also played perfectly on both stand alone
players. I also burned an ISO file from the Nero disc that had the
problems. Then I burned that ISO using Imgburn. The resulting
disc played perfectly on the stand alones. Still curious I also
burned a disc on some really cheap media I had here. It turned
out perfect. So the problems were not generated by Shrink or
cheap media. They came from the Nero 6.6 ultra. By the way it
was not a rip off of the program I got somewhere. It was the
full version that I cost me $90.

As far as I am concerned, I know that roxio always conflict with Nero. In other words, you cannot have both in your pc. I strongly recommend you do a full uninstall for roxio including its driver.
HP DVD+R is not a good choice. Try dvd media like verbratim, Taiyo Yuden or Maxell made in Japan.

I'm sure you are correct about the software conflict between Roxio
and Nero. Deleteing the Roxio caused further problems. The Imgburn
that was burning a good disc with Easy Cd Creator file on the Hd
started having the same problems as the Nero. So used GoBack to
put me back where I was. When I created an ISO from Shrink while
the Roxio was gone. The file said it was and ISO instead of and
Easy Cd Creator ISO like before.
Now I'm confused. Do I go back and try to get rid of the Roxio
and get things working with Nero(and I don't know how)? Would
it be more productive to get rid of the Nero and see if there is
an update for Roxio?
Thanks to everyone who is trying to help.

Well, to be completely honest here, if I was havign the same problem I would uninstall the roxio, uninstall Nero and any other burning software that you have and start again.. install Nero, DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, DVD43 and then burn a few discs to see what they come out like.

If you're still having problems after that, then I would completely wipe my system and start from scratch... but that's just me and I do this at least once a year anyway to clear my registry etc. If you decide to do that, make sure you have any downloaded programs that you like using, any files etc you want to keep etc backed up onto cd or dvd so that you can just load them on again later. When I wipe my system etc, it generally takes me around 4 hours to reinstall windows and all the programs I like and the updates etc with a 2mb/s ADSL internet connection.

Hope you get it sorted, whichever way you decide to go... :)

Shardel,
I am asking you to uninstall the roxio not deleting it. These are two different process. You have got to uninstall it using your control panel choose add or remove programme and download CCleaner from link here http://www.ccleaner.com and run to clean your registry files.
Re boot your pc and try to burn your dvd using shrink and Nero and try not to burn ISO image file with ImgBurn if you are not similar with it. A word of reminder use quality dvd media like verbratim, taiyo yuden or maxell made in japan. Bad quality dvd media is the cause of frozen dvd while playing and always burn at a speed not more than 4X. Do not install both DVD43 and AnyDVD in your pc. In other word, select only one AnyDVD or DVD43. I would suggest install AnyDVD will be a better choice.

I uninstalled Xcopy, Cyberpower DVD, Imgburn, Shrink, Nero, and
Roxio Easy CD Creator. Then restarted computer. Downloaded
ccleaner and ran issues-made backup file of everything it said
needed to be fixed-then fixed. Then restarted computer.
I then installed Nero 6.6 ultra (Nero 6 and Vision Express only).
Downloaded patch SMCpatch.exe for Vision Express. Restarted
computer. Installed Shrink v. 3.2.0.15 and restarted computer.
Installed DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4.0 and restarted computer.
Is there anything else I need to do before I try all this?

Nope, looks good to me.. you should be good to go, try another test burn with the best media you have at your disposal...which would be the sony.

Forgot to ask.. what burner are you using? and what's the max speed?
It could be that your burner doesn't like that brand of media.. unlikely, but worth a shot getting some really good quality media like Taiyo yuden and then giving it a shot too.

good luck with it :)

Shardel,
First of all you were given a tool that produced the result you were looking for, second you are doing way too many things that I would consider unnecessary (no offense guys)except using ccleaner when ever you uninstall software.

I have Nero 6.6 ultra, Roxio 7, and Imgburn all installed and working perfectly on the same system. The only conflict between Roxio and Nero would be between their packet writing software(Drag to Disk for Roxio and InCd for Nero), choose to install one but not both (I have Drag to disk running). I have used both Roxio and Nero to make backups with no problems, it's HOW they are used that makes the difference along with good quality media and a slow burn speed.

Shardel, files created in an ISO format will always have a .iso extension reguardless of what software you have installed on your system, the OS knows.

When I use Roxio I just right click on the ISO file and choose open, this will open Roxio's disk copier (I believe), choose the destination, write speed(4x), make sure the disk is finalized, press BURN.
When I use Nero I choose Burn ISO to DVD from the startup screen's menu, choose the ISO I want to burn and follow the direction (burn at 4x).
Both programs work well, but to make a simple backup of a dvd that's perfect every time and is simple to use...well... use ImgBurn.
DONE.

Everybody is just trying to help-so don't get upset with each other
please. I appreciate all the attempts to help. To answer a question-I have and I/O Magic 8X Dual Format DVD writer.
I wrote a 1 hr. 40 min. disc. Wrote to an ISO file with Shrink and
burned with Nero at 4 times. The movie played for 1hr and 20 min. and
then started to stutter. It stuttered 9 times before the credits and
a bunch during the credits, but played to the end.
I am now going to try installing the Imgburn and try the process with
it.
Thanks again guys. You are all super.

Burned a movie with Shrink to ISO & burned with Imgburn.
101 min. movie(3928 MB). No stuttering, but at 93 min. it
froze (scene 24 of 30).
There were only 2 things I did differently when I installed
present programs. When I installed Nero Vision Express I let
it install with the defaults they had checked. Before when it
was installed I unchecked everything. When I installed Imgburn
I got a message that said "Imgburn is intended to replace DVD
Decrypter for burning disc images. Would you like to remove old
Burn using DVD Decrypter file associations? I clicked No.
Before I do a GoBack to before all the stuff I did today does
anyone have any suggestions?

Just checked. Norton GoBack is no longer an option. A message
comes up on it that says GoBack suspended due to massive file
activity. Windows Restore will not restore to an earlier date
either-even though there were restore points.

You may also have a dvd player issue, some older players have playback problems with DVD+Rs and/or DVD-Rs. This problem can usually be resolved by applying bitsetting also known as booktyping, the DVD player is fooled into identifying the DVD as a DVD-ROM (this can only be done to DVD+R media) increasing compatability. Your drive is a I/O magic and I'm not sure if it's firmware supports booktyping(you should check with their website), I/O magic is not supported as of yet by ImgBurm for booktyping, but if your drive can do it Nero supports it. What I suggest is to try playing the movie you made on another newer/recent DVD player (a friends) that supports all media types and see if it plays without any problems, if it plays without a problem then I would suggest upgrading your player.

If you ran ccleaner and had it remove all unnecessary files, it removed all of your restore points and could of affected Norton's ability to restore the OS to any earlier state as well. There is no way to get the removed files back (you should always become familiar with any software before use), all you can do now is move forward since you can't go back. I only use ccleaner to remove unnecessary registry entries or one left behind from an uninstall.

Thought I had the cclean figured out since I made a backup file
before using--but I didn't.
It is okay. My Coby player was the one I played the 2 discs on.
It is about 2 years old. I just got done trying the 2 discs on
the Memorex which is less than 6 months old. I only played the
last half of each movie, but started at a scene prior to where
the problems occured. Both played to the end without a single
problem. So this time it was a player issue. Before I did all
this discs weren't working on either player.
Thanks for all the help.
