If you're playing the movie on a dvd player, you usually have a button on the dvd remote that's says subtitle, that's lets you cycle through the different subtitles you want or turn them off...

I take it that you burned the movie in dvd re-author mode? next time you do a movie and don't want subtitles, click the compression settings tab and deselect and subtitles you don't want on the disc... same can be done for audio too, as sometimes you'll get directors commentaries etc that are really annoying.

hope that helped

After importing your files into Shrink, click on the Main Movie folder icon (if not done by default already). Then, on the right hand side, you'll see the subtitle selections...simply uncheck them all. If they are not encoded to your new compilation, there shouldn't be any on the final product.

Now, your DVD player may also have a menu in which you can turn off subtitles...mine says it does, but turns out it's only for language selection.

So, if you didn't re-author it, you must have done a full disc backup right?
Then all you have to do to turn off the subtitles is go into the dvd menu and turn off the subtitles from there.

An easier way(I think) to re-author movies is to open DVD Shrink, and click the re-author tab.. you'll then see a browser window (you can insert the disc at anytime up to here), then select the drive where your dvd is and it'll analyse the disc and then show the contents of the disc, like menus, main movies and extras. I'm assuming you just want the movie at this point... select the movie and drag into the dvd structure window on the left... if you add anything else while re-authoring other than a movie, say extras..it just adds them as a movie clip too, so make sure these go after the movie.
Then after you've added what you want on the disc, click the compression settings tab next to the browser tab... this'll show you the subtitles and audio streams contained in the movie(s), you can select and deselect these how you wish. When you've got it all how you want it click the backup button as usual.

i'm assuming that you have the preferences how you want them as to how big the output files should be.. most people have this set to around 4300MB so that it doesn't burn too near the edge of the disc.

I'm not an expert, but if you have any trouble following what I said I can try to help you further and provide images if you need them, good luck :)

Yeah, I do that sometimes too creaky, LOL...
It's especially handy to have the subtitles if you need them, for example, in kill bill where you only need them for about 10 mins at a time, LOL

@btlmonkey - which way did you use in the end, that you got to work for you? I'm just asking because it might benefit others who read this thread to know which way worked for you? Thanks

....and glad you got it working :)

I'm going to do a little reading up on re-authering and play with that next.

Yeah, I use that most of all... I hardly ever use full disc mode, unless it's something like smallville or other episodal disc where the menu comes in handy :)
