To check and see if AnyDVD is running, press CTRL ALT DEL, click on the Processes tab and look for AnyDVD.exe.
To check if AnyDVD is in your startup list, go to Start, Run, type in msconfig
Click on the startup tab, and make sure there is a check box next to AnyDVD.

you should have an icon in your tool tray at the bottom, but when you download AnyDVD, it will prompt you to a restart (did you do that)
when they say running in the back grounds, thats just it, it runs by itself, no need to turn anything on or off, or change settings. you will see the red fox in the tray, and when you pop in a movie, it will switch to a gray/red color, then you know its 'running in the back ground'
with shrink and AnyDVD alone, i successfully backed it up, no problem at all..

I made a good back up of Fantastic 4 by using DVD Shrink and Nero. On DVD Shrink I went to re author to select just the movie and it burned great ! Any ? Hit me back.

@kysgirl - i used just DVD Shrink on it's lonesome but the other replies should sort you out.
@gronimo18 - that sig is too huge, you're gonna have to shrink that pic right down :)
