Modchips are not very easy to install unless your very good at soldering. You will probably have to buy the official sony hd if you want to use it as a memory card (then you might as well just spend the extra $50 and get a new ps2).

there is the dms4 EZI mod chip witch requires no soldering but it didn't work for me because of loose connections so i had it soldered on by someone and i could of saved $40.00 if i had just baught the dms4 that requires soldering. the mod chip or the official sony hdd with the Utility Disc will not let you save directly to the hdd it only allows you to transfer your saves to the hdd to save space on your memory card. with out a mod chip that has ATAD Auto-Patching you wont be able to use the Utility Disc on any hdd you have to use the sony hdd unless you have a mod chip that has ATAD Auto-Patching, other wise your hdd utility disk is useless.
