I have Sony DVD+R 8x dvds and on the label, it says 1-8x. I want to burn at 4x, but on dvd decrypter, it says that only 6x and 8x are supported. If I ignore these burn speeds and burn at 4x, will the burner automatically burn at 6x (or 8x)?

yes, more than likely they WILL burn @6x or @8x, whichever is supported by your burner and the programs you are using~ :) if only 6x and 8x are available as the write descriptor speeds, good luck in getting it down to 4x...

You shouldn't really have problem burning at 6x, I have a 1693 and 6x is all i burn and haven't had a problem yet, some real minor ones but that's it. ONce i burned 4x with dvddecrypter and it failed. So just burned as it's reccommended.

random999: What is the brand name/model#/and firmware version of your DVD-RW drive?

4x is norm, But some of these quality 16x writers actually burn the quality media at 8x rather than the 4x speed. My benqs will overburn the sony +8x media at 16x and the few that accidentally got burned that fast, turned out very good.

You can try the 6x speed. Just make sure all your stand alone players have no issues with that speed. They'll pixellate/pause/skip/or no disc inserted errors if they do have issues with that burn speed.

Those sony +8x are made by 2 different manufacturers. Look on the label for country of origin. The made in japan spindles are Yuden000-T02 which are made by Taiyo yuden-some of the best quality. The taiwanese spindles will ID as SonyD11,also a pretty good manufacturer.

Nero gives me better results on my backups.DVD Decrypter does give me more issues on my burns. My stand alones tell me that.A much better picture using nero6.

i have a 1693s and found that it would not burn below 6x as well
i hated this because i'm a 4x burner baby
so if you set the burn speed in decrypter at 1x it fools the drive and it will burn at 4x (works for me every time)
