hey all, we've recently come across some memorex dl dvd+r discs, and we decided to try to back up our fant4 as a straight 1x1 full copy.

we are using dvdshrink 3.2 with nero and burning with a sony dru-700a dual layer burner. we changed the setting in shrink to accomodate the dl dvd.

well everything seemed to go fine. the backup and the burn happened without any errors. the problem arises when we try to play the disc in our sony dvd player (set top). all the other backups (single layers) work without a hitch. whenever this disc is put in it reads as a disc dirty error.

any suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated. thanks to all that look and especially to those that help!!!

jaynecobb,
I hate to tell you but you are using the worst blank media you could use. Try Verbatim (+) and burn at 2.4. Your player is not recog the leadin of the blank media.

Try using DVDDecrypter ( along w/ AnyDVD) to rip the movie to HD and then heve DVDDecrypter burn the image file created. DVDD finds the layer break better than Shrink or Nero

jaynecobb,

Setup DVDDecrypter and AnyDVD:

In DVDDecrypter go to Tools> settings>General- now look about 1/2 the way down and you will see" Check for structure Protection. I want you to uncheck that. In tools>settings>I/O- make sure a check mark is next to ELBYCDIO- Elaborate Bytes.

You can get AnyDVD here as they have a 21 day free trial. If you like it you can buy it. Suggest you do that: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/anyd...

Now after you install AnyDVD you will see a red foxes head in the taskbar( lower right). Insert the movie into the burner and the foxes head will go white and then turn back red. After it turns red then you are ready to go

Rip the DVD
1. From the "Mode" menu, select "ISO" > "Read".

2. Notice where DVDDecrypter is going to save the file.

3. Click the big "Decrypt" button.

4. After it finishes reading now take the DVD-9 movie disc out of the drive.

5.The foxes head on the taskbar ( lower right) click on it and click EXIT. That turns AnyDVD off

6. In DVDDecrypter Go to "Mode" > select "ISO" > "Write".

7. Put a blank double layer disc in your DVD burner.

8. Click the little folder icon - "Browse for source file" - and select the MDS file created for you as part of the steps above.

9. Click the big 'Write' button.

thanks for the instructions, i followed them to the letter...and it still didn't work worth a toss...except on my xbox 360, and the newer (though feature lite) panasonic dvd player. obviously my sony dvd player is for shite.

as far as the media goes, i just read in the new max pc that memorex was slighty better than the verbatim and maxell...oh well, at least i know that i can play these discs on the 360 so i guess i'm happy for now.

thanks again for all the help, it's great to know that there are people out there that are still neighborly.

This should help. Use better media.

No offense here, but I despise Memorex and especially CMC MAG. Alkohol said; "as long as Yuden Co. Ltd., Verbatim and Maxell (Hitachi Corp. - made in japan) exist, I'll never wastes a single penny on CMC MAG."

The problem is your media, try Verbatim for any of your future DL backups -- I highly recommend Verbatim DVD+R DL (Made In Singapore).

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.
