i have this same exact problem with my (brand new) LG 4167B, even when i try to do 8x on my 'Verbatim TY' media. i do 4x though and it works perfectly. My LG 4163B however does 8x perfectly..

yeah, don't get me wrong about the LG drives, they're great, it's just this 4167B is a little scared of 8x i think. the 4163B is fantastic. i always had my eye on getting a 4163B at some point and when i finally got around to buying one, they'd just brought out the 4167B; and i received one of the last remaining 4163B by mistake so was chuffed as i'd read such great things about the 4163B

it just doesn't/can't do 8x on my Verb TY, or normal Verbs, it sits there at lead-in and gives up with a 'logical block address' or similar error, but works faultlessly at 4x. i don't know if it's faulty, i got access to another couple 4167B's but as it's fine at 4x (plus i rarely use it as i only really use the 4163B) i've just left it be

Are your Verbs + or -? I mainly use TY (around a 100 +R and 100 -R), but I do have around 100 Verbs in the + format...

i posted you a great link re Imation (ugh) in my last reply, and on the outside chance that your burner is faulty, DVD burners have two lasers, one for DVD's and one for CD's.

As to media, my good and bad recommendations are in my sig
