Hopefully this is the right section to ask these questions and hope someone with information can help me out. :)
I am having a problem with burning DVD movies. Lately in the last few weeks I seem to get copies that I burnt "pixelate" or "freeze up" around the middle to the end of the movies. Examples are Fantastic 4, Stealth, Bad News Bears and a few others. I rip them from clean new source DVD' s but lately this has been happening more and more. I use AnyDVD (current version), DVD Shrink to burn, DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter to rip, a LiteOn DVD Rom to read the original movie, and a Pioneer 106D burner. For months this has worked, but now I just don' t know why the copies are turning crappy.
I burn onto Ridata 8 x DVD - R printable discs, if this helps as well. I usually reboot my cpu to start fresh for a clean burn just incase cpu resources are drained. I also defrag my cpu weekly and keep up to date with maintenance and virus checks as well, and erase the burnt files from hard drive. For months I was even burning at maximum speed now just to make 50% of the copies better I burn at 1 x speed, though this does not help every time.
All I can think of is maybe the burner or Rom need to be replaced or maybe the media is the wrong type to use latley.
What do you all think?
Can you recommend a better Rom, burner, and media type that have better results and are at reasonable prices?
Or is there better burning software as well as ripping software available to try and purchase after (are there also walkthroughs on this new software)?
Also is there a software that tells you a copy will not be 100% perfect by possibly reading the burnt copy in the Rom (otherwise I have to watch the movie right after a burn to only find out it went bad again)?
Thanks to anyone in advance.
To burn or not to burn, there is no question.

This sounds like a media and burning speeds issues to me. Go here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/262544 for more info on high quality scans versus CMC MAG or other cheap and unknown media scans. Additionally, I've always recommend for newbies to burn at 4X only -- it's the best, safest and most recommended here at AfterDawn.
Again, my top 3 choices of high quality media are: (1) genuine Taiyo Yuden (2) Verbatim "Advanced Azo" (3) Maxell (Hitachi - made in japan). I only used DVD+R media because it's obvious that Book Typing them into DVD-ROM is one of the best format [universal] (ie DVD-ROM + high quality media + burn at 4X = worries free = longevity), and of course it will plays in all functional dvd players.

In addition, if you want to learn more about Book Typing all your DVD+R, DVD+RW and DVD+R DL media into DVD-ROM, so any of your standalone dvd players can play them smoothly. Remember, quality last, not quantity or speeds -- so don't burn over 8X if you feel the need to go beyond 4X, plus use high quality media.
Here is a guide on how to "book type" via DVD Decrypter. This is when you're "ready" to burn to the blank media (DVD+R DL, DVD+R, DVD+RW) only. If DVD+RW and DVD+R/+R DL doesn't work, then try the (DVD+R/+R DL Media - EEPROM!) - it should work. NOTE: set both of your "source" and "destination" ready, then do the following and burn it.
If you have the following set to "Automatic" then whenever you use Nero Recode 2, Nero Express or Nero Burning Rom to burn, all your backups will automatically set the book type to DVD-ROM. That is... if your DVD burner is capable of book typing.
((Here's how to Book Type using Nero Burning Rom))
01) open up Nero StartSmart, then click on Nero Burning Rom
02) EXIT out the "New Compilation" when it pops up
03) click on "Chooses A Recorder" (it's a small burner icon next to (I) and the arrow down)
04) click on ?Options," then on "Book Type Settings," set to "Automatic" and click "OK" - that's it... easy as smoking. Now every time when you burn using a DVD+R, DVD+RW or DVD+R DL disc, Nero will ?automatically? change the Book Type into a DVD-ROM format.
Good luck and have fun burning!!

Thanks alkohol, was not sure how soon a response or help would come, but I appreciate your help and the above links and details. This is for sure the best forum around with the best people with great information.
I' ll check into this links, read up on it and consider a few changes to my machines and especially media type.
Those (1) genuine Taiyo Yuden (2) Verbatim "Advanced Azo" (3) Maxell (Hitachi - made in japan) are they easy find either online or retail and are prices reasonable on spools of 100 - 300?
Can you recommend online websites that sell them (not sure if I can ask that but if not I understand)?
Thanks in advance again.

@BurnMafia
For Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim media, I highly recommend:
1) supermediastore at http://www.supermediastore.com/
2) meritline at http://www.meritline.com/ 3) rima at http://www.rima.com/
For top notch media like Maxell (Hitachi - made in japan) and other genuine Taiyo Yuden media, you can find them at your local Best Buy, Target, Circuit City, Wal-Mart, Sams Club, Staples, etc.
(*NOTE: the FUJI & SONY 8X DVD+R "made in japan" is also a authentic Taiyo Yuden media. Maxell 8X DVD+R "made in japan by Hitachi" is another high quality media).

Alkohol.
I am doing some research now over the weekend on all the links that you posted in this thread and also some media searching as well. At the moment I feel the Taiyo Yuden is the way to go until I read more into others mentioned. A friend linked me to a Canadian online site and I was wondering if you can look at this site give me some feed back on choices they have for Taiyo Yuden, and the Verbatim. I don' t think they have any Maxell. So the 2 mentioned are what I am looking into. Being there are so many choices what do you recommend from the 2 links I list here off there site and what do you think of the 1 link on the Taiyo Yuden.
First link is all there Taiyo Yuden line - http://www.blankmedia.ca/prodsubcats.asp?id=62
Second link is there Verbatim line - http://www.blankmedia.ca/prodsubcats.asp?id=70
Third link is the Taiyo Yuden I was thinking of getting and trying out on my Pioneer 106D burner - http://www.blankmedia.ca/proddetail3.asp?id=515
Or is this fourth link better - http://www.blankmedia.ca/proddetail3.asp?id=421
I am also wondering as it states this on that last link "The spindle you receive may be Ty G03 media coded depending on the batch lot. There are alot of 4x burners that are not compatible with this disk."..........so how do I know if this will work on my Pioneer 106D burner?
I am also considering a new burner, what 3 top reasonable (price wise) machines do you recommend?
Sorry to ask so much, but hoping you can guide me to a better way of doing things on better media and so on.
Again thanks in advance.
PS. I just tried making copies of 40 year old virgin, Bad News Bears and Valiant and all 3 failed again at low speeds of buring up to 4x as well, all on the same Ridata 8x discs listed here - http://www.blankmedia.ca/proddetail3.asp?id=387
I just can' t explain it, this media worked for me for months now all they are good for are coasters (because 3/4 into the movie it freezes up or just pixelates).

Thank you Alkohol and Rotary.
Long story short :)
I decided on going to Best Buy and picked up Maxell x 8 DVD-R media and Fugifilm x 8 media. With the idea of testing was my problem with media or burner or something else. I went with what you both said and what I can manage at the moment until my new order of Taiyo Yuden arrived in a week hopefully. Since I could not wait till then thought try out these 2 other medias and see what happens. While shopping decided to hit my local computer store and picked up a Pioneer DVR - 110D as a back up idea incase the media was not working either. Had my eyes on the Plextor as almost double the price but thought I can wait till Christmas if I really need it. Since I had to know for sure what my situation was I went this route and after trying Valiant and Bad News Bears and using the Maxell first I found you guys were right....its the media. I have not done full testing or tried the Fugifilm yet or even watched the movies yet. But I ran the movies into each chapter for about a minute each and I saw no glitching or pixelating or freezing so at the moment I believe things look good. I will try tomorrow to watch these 2 and see if I can still stay happen.
Side note since I have this new burner I may add it to my computer as a backup and consider the old Rom to be traded to a friend if he wants it to watch DVDs on his computer. So all in all if all goes well its a win / win situation, and I appreciated all your help. So I send a big thanks to you both and thought to state this to the forum that you both are a benefit to this forum as are others.
Whewww wanted to keep it short but saying thanks should be done correctly.
Merry Christmas to all and enjoy the burning.
To burn or not to burn, there is no question.

@BurnMafia
You're welcome, glad we could help. Like I said, if you're going after genuine Taiyo Yuden, Maxell (made in japan by Hitachi Corp.) and Verbatim "Advanced Azo", then you shouldn't have any failed burns at all. A good thumb of rule is to make sure your dvd burner's firmware is up-to-date with the most current version, go here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php and check it out for any latest available firmware for you Pioneer burner.
Again, I personally like to keep all of my backups burning at 4X only, it's the best, safest and most recommended here at AfterDawn. However, I did burned some at 8X successfully and when I scans the Quality Score and PIF, some of my 8X burns were slightly higher like 3 on PIF and 93 on Quality Scores, but some are on par with my 4X burned, which mostly are 2 PIF and 95 Quality Scores (sometimes I get only 1 PIF and 98 Quality Scores, that is awesomely sweet). Once you're content and have enough confidence in yourself, you then can burn at 8X if you feel the needs to go beyond 4X. Again, I wouldn't recommend going over 8X though.
(*NOTE: make sure your Maxell says "Made In Japan", then you should be fine. Honestly, I am a DVD+R person, plus "Made In Japan" is a MUST HAVE on any of my Maxell, or Taiyo Yuden (the FUJI or SONY 8X DVD+R "m.i.j" is also authentic YUDEN media).
