I have the latest versions of Dvd shrink dvd decryptor and currently running nero6???. It used to take me 45 minutes or so to burn a movie, I usually just use shrink and then nero. Now it is taking me 2 hours, and before while the movie was encoding or burning I was able to do other things, like surf the web at what not, now when it's encoding or burnig I can barely move my mouse. I have a H.P computer Athlon 2600, 512 Ram, I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this problem but i thought i would give it a chance, I can't tell you how many times I came to this site and found a fix for whatever problem i was having. Any help would be great. Thank you

It sounds like your system slipped into PIO mode instead of DMA. To change it back follow this guide:

http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/checking%20DMA.pdf

I would recommend though, if you are doing backups that you not do anything else while doing so. It could cause you problems with your burns and cause you system to revert to PIO.

I'm not sure that PIo and DMA is, but I'll read that guide you posted. Yes, i usually don't do anything while it's ripping or burning I have had movies skip because of that, it's just that I noticed now that I CAN'T do anything while it's burning and I know there is a problem somewhere. Thanks for the quick response

I think that's your issue. Read and follow the steps and you will be up and running again. If it is not the answer post back. Maybe post a burn log file so we can see what is going on.

I have to be honest with you, well I guess I don't have to but I am, when I saw what you posted and opened up the guide and read it, I was thinking "NO WAY can that be it, what is this guy thinking", but I sit corrected, my computer is humming away like it was a month ago. Thank you very much. How does that happen to someones computer? Thanks again

Too many read errors will make a system switrch back to PIO.

Thanks again for fixing my other issue.

To be honest I am still wondering what the deal is with mine. I follwed that guide to the letter and restarted the computer and my shrink is still running slow. I am doing a test on Top Gun right now...it is an older DVD but in the encoding process it took well over an hour. It was doing that with 3.2 and I uninstalled it along with Nero...I reinstalled Nero and redid my old 3.1.7 shrink and I have the same results.

Things that cause slow times:

-Spy/mal/adware. Run Ad-Aware (free) to get rid of this.
-HD fragged. I defrag my HD after every 2-3 movies.
-Multi-tasking, close all uneeded aps via task manager.

@jordanwd

Yes AnyDVD will work on bewitched. And yes again AnyDVD and DVD43 conflict. But if you have the full version of AnyDVD then why bother with DVD43? But if you don't (have full version) then I recommend DVDFAB, it's free and does every movie that AnyDVD can.

there was one thing in that guide that i thought could have been a bit more clear. towards the end when it said to delete both controllers (being the idiot that I am) I was sure if it was talking about the primary and the secondary, or the secondary and the thing below it. So I uninstalled the primary and the secondary and left the thing at the bottom alone. You probably already knew that though,good luck. thanks again for all your GlueEater, I'll give dvdfab a try. take care

@jordanwd

I'm glad that that DMA fix worked for you. Like GlueEater suggests, defrag the HD often. I do mine every week and my system humms along. Backing up movies will put files everywere on the HD, read errors, movie files, temps, etc. So it is important to defrag.

Spyware, malware, adware, also will slow down a great system. Clean these out often as well. I use spyware doctor and panicware popup blocker. Remember to turn them off though when you are doing your backups, and no internet at the same time.

Cheers.
