DVD+R are probably more popular, but it all depends on what kind of media your burner is capable of burning and what type of media your set top player will accept.

I believe that DVD+R cost 5$ more in a 100 pack or is it the oppisite?

Thanks all for the info. I just don't know which one to use, DVD+R or DVD-R. What's the difference as far as what they will do or which one will play and which one won't. I have been getting Verbatim's DVD+R from Sam's Club and backed up a movie and it wouldn't play even after supposedly "successfully" burning it. I got an error message that said something about formatting. The movie wouldn't play on the computer nor would it play on the DVD player.

I have found that DVD-R discs will play in virtual any dvd player.
I have a sony hd upconverd dvd player that will not read all +r media. The player does not have any problem with -r media. Also, with -r media, the disc loads instantly, unlike +r media is a bit slower to load in the machine.

If your burner is capable, you need to booktype your +R to -ROM. That way it will be universally compatible....

Need to know the model number of the LG. Your pioneer is not capable of bitsetting. Firmware is kind of like instructions for your dvdrw drive on how to burn different medias. There are f/w updates as new and different medias become available.

Looks like teflonmyk and mort81 have you headed down the right path. Don't take back those +R's just yet, you'll be much happier if we can get you booktyping. Even though your Pioneer drive isn't bitsettable, you can still booktype in Nero using the high compatability mode. Those verbatim's are highly rated media here at AD too.
