Current version 3.2.0.15

Try ripping with DVD Decrypter in file mode, make sure you select all files under edit. Go to tools, Settings, I/O, and tick the ElbyCDIO-elaborate bytes option, this will allow you to rip with DVDD while AnyDVD strips the protection.

What was the error message?

What happens is, DVD Shrink rips it with AnyDVD but when it is compressed, it doesnt do it to fit on DVD-R. so i ripped the already ripped file again but it rips it only a few megabytes. i tried it again but it compresses in small bits.

How can i solve this????

Do you have your custom size set to 4300 in DVD Shrink? Have you removed all audio except AC3 5.1, and any/all subtitles? As far as the small files go, is your system set up as a FAT32 file system or a NTFS?

Can you settle for just the main movie, with no menues or special features? You may want to consider using the Reauthor mode.

Hi NRG21!
I am new to this forum, but have been dabbling in DVD rips for some years. I have just had the same problem with 8mm 2 (region2). (I think it also applies to Closer Region 2 addition).
The problem seems to be the Sony extra protection on the disk. Not sure what its called, but I have discovered that if you run the current Version of AnyDVD (5.7.3.1) (the trial!), then use DVD Decrypter (version 3.5.4.0), you can rip the 8 mm 2 disk completely to HDD. DVD Decrypter won't work by itself as there are file errors included in blocks on the DVD. Now normally I would use DVDShrink (3.1.7) to transcode the ripped DVD to the correct size and burn it with Nero. However, DVD Shrink seems unable to shrink the data in the normal way below 6Gb (not seen this before!). The solution is to use CloneDVD2 (Slysoft) which will transcode / shrink the files and burn them to a new DVD. The resulting DVD works fine.

Oh, now I see what the problem is. Just run FixVTS on the movie and it will correct the compression problems. Another method is to click the "Analysis" button in DVD Shrink's main window. Either way will save you $30.

There are a few DVDs that this problem does show up in when using DVD Shrink. AnyDVD is made to work the best with CloneDVD, so that is why you need an extra step for DVD Shrink. If you can afford CloneDVD with no problem, then it may be a good investment, but personally, I prefer DVD Shrink + VobBlanker to CloneDVD2.

@coxman,

Both those programs will not work after the 21 day trial period. Before you go out and buy the programs, you should look at your other options:

http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=56078

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260734

and also DVDFab Decrypter + FixVTS + DVD Shrink (add VobBlanker if you want to further reduce the size of the movie).

All three of these methods are free, but involve more input from you. The PSL method (first link) has gotten easier now, since the PSL plugin has a wizard mode.

Basically here is how to replace each piece of software:

DVD Decrypter + PGCEdit = AnyDVD
DVD Decrypter + IFOEdit = AnyDVD
DVDFab Decrypter ~ AnyDVD

FixVTS + VobBlanker + DVD Shrink = CloneDVD2

There are a few more benefits to AnyDVD though since it does remove some audio Copy protections and stops the Sony Rootkit and similar without disabling Autorun in your registry.

Overall, it is a matter of Value of $50 to $60 (AnyDVD + CloneDVD2) Vs. Time + Effort (other methods).

If you are short on time and do not care much about $50 to $60, then AnyDVD + CloneDVD2 is more than worth the money. AnyDVD is the more important of the two though. If you have lots of time and do not care about putting an extra 5 to 10 minutes per DVD, then it may not be worth the extra money.

@JaguarGod!,
Well you are a busy fellow ! I have been reading all the threads I can on the Sony AREccOS protection and Ripping Guides, and I think I am getting the picture...There seems to be a Cat and Mouse game going on between sony&Co and the DVD Ripping Community! I know which side I have been on since macrovision hit VHS tapes!

I observe the simplicity of AnyDVD (not its coding but its use!), but it does seem to me that a deeper understanding of the whole DVD protection system clearly aids the ripping process. And it also seems that the process is going to change month by month as sony&Co come up with some other new scheme, and the means of defeating it are developed. More power to your elbow! and your fellow hackers for sticking with it!

I have used InfoEdit before, but PgcEdit with all the integrated plugiin operability seems more fiendly! I also see that wielding something like FixVTS could cause some problems if used without care.
A recent use of FixVTS on an un-sound set of VOBs led to sections of the film (Closer) repeating theselves in quick sucession in 5 different languages -- Rubbish IN Rubbish OUT!

So I am off to borrow another sony protected DVD to experiment on!
