can any body help please i have a sony dw-u18a and i cannot update the firmware i have had it for about 2 years and can not find it listed in the sony update site, it seems it dont exstist many thanks for any help.

well my sony isnt quite that old but i go to sony.com and get it there. most sonys are made by liteon. try this link for firmware. http://forum.rpc1.org/

What brand of discs are you using? That could be another reason (besides firmware not updated) that you are burning coasters.
Stick with the good stuff like Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim.

thanks all to the replys, binkie7 i have tryed many well know brands eg sony, phillips, ridisc, logik, and i have for the last months kept getting the disc failed right at the begining of the burn this is just a small cut of my failed report,

Command sequence error usually mean that your drive can't accept what the burning prog is trying to tell it to do. Usually a firmware update resolves this or a driver update. Drivers seem okay.
Your Sony is a LiteOn oem.
Can you post the whole log?
