I always buy verbatim (here in Italy) with media code TYG02, this mean that this is a Taiyo yuden manifactured disk, now, my first question is: does two disks with identical mediacode mean that they are identical? in this case a verbatim with TYG02 is identical to a Taiyo 8x, and the advanced azo technology? is it a commercial trick or TYs disks own the same technology?
In addition,
great users ALKOHOL and KIVORY666 tell not to buy disks with CMC MAG media code but to buy TYs or Verbatims; however I found a Verbatim with CMC MAG media code!!!!! Infact, the new Verbatim Pearl White has : CMC MAG. AE1 media code. I own one of theese....bad, bad, bad stuff. actually, in Italy, this type of verbatims are replacing the TYG02(or MCC) one.

the disk that have the same manufacturer codes are from the same factory that makes both disks! So yes they are the same disks. Stay away from CMC Mags. If Verbatim are making their disks from this manufacturer then I wouldn't buy them anymore!

The pearl white verbatums are the only ones being made by cmc mag and should be avoided at all costs. All other verbatums should be the good stuff. Verbatum (MCC003) is almost all I use. Excellent media.

actually blueye, the ones with SAME media ID coding on discs does NOT necessarily mean they are identical in quality.... :)

this is especially true with Taiyo Yuden...the ones you have, Verbatim branded TYG02s (the same ones creaky uses in the UK) are great AUTHENTIC stuff~ manufactured by Taiyo Yuden, with the same quality adhered to by Taiyo Yuden specifications on their unbranded stuff~ :)

but, just beware of FAKE Taiyo Yudens, there are many companies that use that exact TYG02 coding...buy from reputable sites that you KNOW 100% offer genuine Taiyo Yudens...made in japan...

as to the Verbatim stuff, yah, the new pearl whites u should stay away from...these are KNOWN CMC MAG produced discs...but, the others, for the most part, made in taiwan, are the MCC coded ones that i use regularly too~ just be knowledgeable before you buy and you should be just fine...

@blueye,

there is a GOOD possibility that the coding on those "MEDIA" brand MIGHT be faked,...i can't say for certain as i've never used them before so i don't want to mislead you since i have had NO experience with them...

these would be the 4x DVD-R rated discs right? can't say i have much experience with 4x rated discs made by MCC (mitsubishi chemical corp), the ONLY 4x DVD-R i've used thousands of are the Taiyo Yuden 4x DVD-R with the TYG01 coding...these are terrific discs to use if you are considering using the DVD-R format~ :)

i wouldn't trust a brand called "media" PERSONALLY, but, hey it's your choice and your money...i wouldn't take the risk IF i were you.

docTY~

@blueye

I'm glad Doc and I could help. You won't be disappointed if you're going after genuine Taiyo Yuden and authentic Verbatim (Advanced Azo - MCC003 & MCC004).

You're in good hands here, since Doc and creaky (our super friendly Moderator is here to help), creaky has more experiences with Verbatim TY combo than Doc and I.

To answer your question, I'm pretty much of a DVD+R person and yes... I make sure that I get genuine media when purchasing them. I make sure it says "Made In Japan" for Taiyo Yuden media, and most importantly I verify with DVD Identifier, DVDInfoPro, Nero CD-DVD Speed and DVD Decrypter to make sure they all have the same media code, for example: an 8X DVD+R Taiyo Yuden disc id code should be YUDEN000T02.

Honestly, I've never experienced any bad, weird, misplaced media codes with genuine Yuden media. However, I have heard/seen very few members stated that they've got Verbatims with CMC MAG code, and that is not a very good sign. With that being said, I'm thinking this is Verbatim's older stocks and should be avoid. If I were you, I would definitely return them for an exchange. Maybe you can have at least more than 2 applications to verify your media just to make sure that they're indeed from the same manufacture.

And lastly, yes.... I despise CMC MAG and I'll never ever waste a single penny on any of them period. Like I said; "as long as Yuden Co. Ltd., Verbatim and Maxell (Hitachi Corp.) exist, I'll never buy CMC MAG."
