Six, Fortis, Bulkpaq DVD-R have media code TYG02 and are FAKE

Hi, I would know if this two media (Six and Fortis) are fake TYG02 or real Taiyo.

Doc i got a question. Can companies fake MID codes too? Is there anything that can't be faked? I would think looking at a TYG02 disc would mean it's TY.

yes, companies CAN and DO fake MID codes all the time...these Fortis 8x DVD-R are a perfect example~ :)
another example is FAKE Taiyo Yuden TYG02 coding on supermediastore's OWN BRAND of media...Linkyo 8x dvd-r~ i had the unfortunate experience of being GIVEN a 25-pack of these discs to "test" for a close friend, these were MADE IN TAIWAN and that is a SURE giveaway...obviously FAKED media ID coding and the burn quality was very poor~ :)
you can depend on GENUINE Taiyo Yudens and can often times determine if you got the "real deal" or not simply by KNOWING the country of origin, TYs are ONLY MADE IN JAPAN...and 2ndly, ALL TY media have the inner hub laser inscription...GD000xxx, GG000xxx, GH000xxx, TG000xxx, etc. (4x DVD-R, 8x DVD-R, 16x DVD-R, 8x DVD+R respectively)...the etc will be the 16x DVD+R YUDEN000T03s when i get my hands on them, but at this point, i haven't received my shipment yet~ :0
and the "xxx" is the batch numerical value of when they were made in all the above codings

and i used to use Bulkpaq Orange dvd's with a media code of TYG02. FAKE, utter rubbish so i will never use a Bulkpaq disc again

Thanks Doc, I don't really worry about fake TY since I only buy MIJ Sony or Fuji, occasionally TY unmarked from Supermediastore.com.
I thought there was some law saying you have to print where it was made, that can't be faked right?

Alkohol is in the house. Again, I'm with Doc in query to genuine YUDEN media. Look at above quote for authentic Taiyo Yuden inner hub codes. If yours don't/doesn't have any of the above code, then it's DEFINITELY 100% FAKE.
Another good rule of thumb to make sure that your TYs are authentic is to verify with DVD Identifier, DVDInfo Pro, DVD Decrypter, Nero CD-DVD Speed, K-Probe, etc. (at least with 3 or more) to make sure they all come up with the same MID code, then you'll know that it's genuine for sure. Just a side note here, make sure you look for "Yuden Co. Ltd." as well.

don't know about the "law" requiring where they were made, but, sometimes companies do not even put it on their label when you buy it online~~ :) this was the case with the Linkyo FAKE TYs i was telling you about earlier, nowhere on the spindle or wrapper did it state the country of origin, it was only after further investigation and numerous calls to supermediastore that i found out EXACTLY where they were produced...
if it's "the law" about putting the country of origin on the spindles/wrapper, then there are QUITE a handful of shady companies that are obviously BREAKING "the law" here...

i buy about 90% of my media online from www.supermediastore.com, whereas the remaining 10% is locally @ bestbuy,staples,compusa,circuit city, office depot, etc when on sale...when looking for Taiyo Yudens...look for "MADE IN JAPAN" on the wrapper of 8x Fuji/Sony DVD+R spindles, or 8x DVD-R Fuji MIJ spindles are Taiyo Yudens too~ :)

@creaky - tnx, the role of forums is to help everyone;
In US there's supermediastore that has good prices,in Italy, we can have orignal TY only if we pay a lot (0,70 eur per dvd) or if we are lucky and buy a not-branded not-fake TYG02.
Actually we can't buy verbatim, because of bad pearl white invasion.
