VSO Products to be banished...

The French government is about to pass a bill known as the DADVSI (Droits d'Auteur et Droits Voisins dans la Société de l'Information n°1206) prohibiting everything that could be considered as a tool or a solution to bypassing protections or read copyrighted formats. VSO Products may be banished as well as P2P clients, instant messaging, emails, internet servers using GNU licensing, and free software including the most popular media players.

Today, French citizens may no longer be able to make a safe backup of their purchased CDs, Movies, Games, etc. or use a software/hardware reader of their choice. Tomorrow, other countries may use this law as a model.

?In addition to killing off the right to private copying while keeping the fees associated to it, according to the DADVSI bill, the simple act of using software to read a DVD that is not authorized by the DVD editor could lead up to a 3-year jail sentence and a 300 000 Euros fine.?
http://eucd.info/index.php?2005/12/04/202-dadvsi-what-s-the-trouble

Invasion of your privacy is also in this law... all the French ISPs will be forced to install a global filter system to prevent any P2P activity and check all email attachments. This will be by far the most restrictive copyright law ever in the world, turning legal users into criminals by the millions.

Please join VSO Software defending your rights to a choice , take a minute to sign the petition.

Okay, but there is that element fo hype in the plea to rally to the cause. You get into interpretation and how the law will be interpreted. In the US and much of the EU, it is illegal to bypass digital encryption. That means no backups of protected digital media. So far the law is going after pirates, as the individual consumer is usually just backing up something he has already purchased the right to use.

If interpreted to go as far as the limits of the wording, the proposed French law could ban the use of PCs and any digital recordable media. They're tools for recording movies after all. So, no PCs and DVDs in France, next they'll be powdering those wigs again. ;)

Arniebear,
Just tossing in a bit of sarcasm as to the state of affairs. Thanks for posting the info. I'm curious to see what happens, keep us informed if you will. Seems if one country does something prohibitive, others like to jump on the bandwagon.

let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\NeroHistory but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '5C' or similar.

You can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

Way to go Creaky. He's burning crap and not enough system resources. The first thing is to buy some RAM, which is dirt cheap these days; then use some good media.

baller3,

Aside from bad media, and not enough memory, you have DMA off on your DVD-ROM drive, which could also effect your ripping process.

Just in case, here's a how-to fix/check DMA.
