Ok, I tried my first dvd burn episode. Used the dvd decrypter software to turn media files onto the hard disk drive. This took an hour and a bit! Next I used dvd shrink to compress the file to suit a 4.7 gb dvd-r TDK 16X speed blank disk. First the program decoded the entire feature and all seemed well according to the preview panel and 4 hours later the entire episode is decoded. Next came the opening panel of dvd decrpter ready to burn to disk and the nero plug in icon is diplayed on the decrypter panel.

Another 1.5 hours go by of reading and writing and at the end of it all the message comes up that success has been reached. WOW now Im excited like a billy goat ready for my first experience.

Place the ready copied dvd into player and much to my dismay, sweet FA ( or to the french no copulation!) lol

What the hell gives? Can anyone shed any light on this? I may have not included all the info but according to the pre-view and stages encountered it would indicate that ALL WAS WELL during read and write. Im lost for explanation but burnt with time and effort but no end result. The dvd just does not load but remains forever young!!! HELP please!!!!!

let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar.

You can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

Hi Guys and let me say thanks for your replies! This is a "daunting task to say the least this dvd world!

I guess my system is not up to par like what most of you have got and im sure because of this you can burn dvd with a minimal of time. Im running windows 98 se and have 192 ram available. I also just have a celeron 466 that is rather "jurassic" to most of you I bet. None the less Im willing to accept the long haul of waiting for decoding read and write on this system. So far I have followed several of the great tutorial links on this site and other informative posts.

I get a result and DVD Decrypter works fine and delivers the goods into a created file. DVD Shrink also performed its duties by organizing the data into a managable size to fit a 4.7 ghz dvd disk. I can preview the movie and it looks inviting to get it onto disk. An so it does or as I would have thought. The final wait gave me a feeling of accomplishment but after placing the disk into a dvd player connected to a tv the loading fails to start and I get a message saying_____ "unknown disc"????
I say What????
Oh well it has become a bedazzeling outcome.

Anyway heres the last log info that I retrieved from the Nero history file::::::

Physical memory : 183MB (187864kB)
Free physical memory: 1MB (1560kB)

you arent going to be able to do anything as it stands like this.

I think my machines got a bad case of Alzheimer's condition. LOL 1 MB ram seems like a huge resourses drain. I think I will have to take advice from the first post and give up dvd !!!! GRRRRR oh well its a memory issue looks like!!!

Ive just included this message after the above,,,,, when I installed the burner I didnt get the latest firmware update for this samsung dvd rw burner. Could this be partially an issue in my first attempt? I have since updated the firmware should this change some issues or not? Not sure if I should perservere with this coaster factory LOL.

sorry 'bout that, but Nero do keep threatening to make smaller updates, but i hear they still haven't sorted that in Nero 7.0.1.2 (maybe not even in 7.0.1.4 that's just been released)

Thanks people for your help. Its well appreciated. I think I will have to look into a newer and better computer some ways down the road. I guess what I want it cant give and the old motherboard is in over drive and experiencing "labor" pains by trying to "rebirth" a new technology that it may not have the resources for.

Oh well looks like its back to VCD slide shows and data storage. Incidentally can you store data on a dvd with 4.7 gbs of info? Wow that would be a huge backup in the event one has to FDISK a new slate of hard disk.

Cheers I will still study this forum its cool.

Thanks again.

Just passin through. What kind of media were you using?

For burning DVD's slow down the burn speed to 4x. Upgrade the ram if your system will allow it. Ram is cheap now and this will help.

Having 0 memory available, I honestly had not seen that one before.

DVD burning is very CPU intensive so you have to shut of the antivirus, spyware, popup blocker, internet, etc. Have nothing else running.

Have you tried to play it in other DVD players. I have an older one that won't play burned ones at all. and my new DVD recorder will not play some Older discs I have burned. and yet another player will play about anything. Just a thought before you give up. Also try different media.

Ok folks, thanks again for the information. I have had several hours to recharge my owm ram and have given a little extra thought to several issues. I think I may give it a couple more tries considering "coasters" are quite functional for placing beers on. LOL.

Im thinking that maybe I had the burn speed way to high as it came up as a default setting. I also believe that maybe my firmware was not updated at the time of the burn . Also the simple fact is that my computer is not able to deal with this amount of transfer data but I feel this may be wrong. It transferred the video_ts files into the folder without to much of a hitch except for time. I can view the movie using the dvd shrink software but somewhere in the burning processes I get a huge memory drop may be due to the fast writing speed that for my system its impossible to write at. Ive noticed that most people in the forum recomend a slower writing speed and may be this may resolve the issue.

I dont mind waiting and am not in a hurry but would enjoy some sort of a dvd coming in being. I wont give up just yet.

I will read with much eagerness the pdf files contained at:
http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/guides.htm
of which give a good//// I should say excellent reference material. Shrink and imageburn are really good mediums as im sure most of you are willing to support. Ill get there eventually if not with this computer but one that will definately have imageburn and shrink on it.

Thanks for the help!!! If I do get a result and you hear a yell of eureka you'll know that I got that dvd "nugget" playing in my player.

Ive been using TDK DVD-R 1_16 blank coasters! Are these any good? Not sure if this is good blanks.

Forgot to mention have a Merry Christmas and New Year! HO HO HO and a bottle of RUM!!!!
