Check out this pic of an original dvd a buddy of mine wants me to backup up for him. If you have a weak stomach,do not look at this pic! I'd never let my originals get into that shape.
Notice the heavy gouge that goes all the way around the disc, and at the top/left side of disc-heavy rubs.
This disc was able to be ripped using dvd shrink and nero to burn. Can you believe no crc errors! I'm watching the copy as I am typing.
Unbelievable!

Wow! I'm surprised that was able to be ripped. That disc looks really bad.
I never let my originals get like that either. If the disc is not in use, it's in the hard case it came in.

You should have seen the crud that was on that disc before I cleaned it up.Disgusting. I was afraid to put it in my benqs or my litey dvd-rom,so I slapped it in my Khypermedia +8x DVD-RW drive to do the ripping. It's not that great of a burner, but a heck of a reader.
It was an adult oriented dvd, LOL
My buddy must have passed that disc around to everybody and their brother. What a perv!

Hey rugger, I got a question.
Maybe a little off subject, I apologize.
I had a burner go ?Tits Up? and was going to get a BenQ but before I ordered it I got an ?offer I couldn?t refuse?. I know the manager of my local OfficeMax and she offered me a Mad Dog MD-16xDVD9 at a steal so I took it home and put it in, so to speak. Anyway, I love it! Able to bit set so it writes all my discs at DVD-ROM and reads like a Harvard Grad.
I have an old 8x burner that will read anything I put in it but it?s slow as molasses. Want to get a new DVD-ROM and had thought about a BenQ 1650V.. What are your thoughts?
I just want a reader that will stay up with Burning on the fly without running out of buffer and lying down! LOL
Thanks for any comments or suggestions.

Well my first though would have been how can you go wrong with a BenQ, but in light of my most recent discovery with the BenQ DQ60 which is made by Teac instead of Phillips. (I'm sending it back unopened).
I would double check on the 1650V before you make the purchase so that you know what you are getting. Here is a sight that you can probably get the info from: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters
If it turns out to be a genuine BenQ I would say you're good to go.
Cheers.
