i have read about not using paper lables, but am not sure if i understand about printing on the white DVD's. Do you have to have a special printer for that? I know mine wont print a dvd, but i guess what i am asking is how would i do that and is it practical for just a few dvd's

Hi
ive found the easy way is to use adhesive backed photo paper and a cutter, there a lots of sites to use to download labels (original and make your own)using photo paper gives a high quality look, down load coverxp which will size them for you aswell

no problems with them not playing in your dvd players? I know how to do that and in fact, have done that. Just was wondering if i should get whatever type of printer i have read about that will print my on my dvds without adding the papercut outs. Thank you for your reply. I am new to this.

i have a solution for you.
i own the Epson R200 and it prints on the media itself; it goes onto a tray (either you buy printing labels and stomp them onto the dvd/cd first before printing or buy printable media) and the software included with the printer does the rest.
you pick the label, add text to it if you want and beleive me when you're done you'd swear it was right out of the store.
6 ink printer/cheap and great reviews.
djdaydave. search this printer and see for yourself.

the problem with adhesive labels is that after extensive play, the glue starts to get less stick (do you catch my drift)

anyway i have a Pixma iP300 and it prints onto discs so i am fine...

also depends on the brand of media you are using to print on...

Still use labels despite some admonitions against them. Most of the time only core labels. Only DVD players that I have found to have problems with them are OLDER ones that have problems with backups label or not. One exception is my Panasonic DVD recorder, which is fairly new. Extensive play? The only backup that gets that much play is the grandkid's Lilo & Stich for which I keep a permanent ISO file to reburn after they destroy the current one. They're special, sticky fingers and all. Of course My Red October has seen more play than any other of my backups. Man I really like Sean Connery in that one. If really concerned use simple water based marker sold for the purpose of writing to CDs and DVDs. Not elegant but practical. I'm not cheap but special discs that can be burned like Liteon that require special burners are expensive. Inkjet and laser printers that print directly to the discs are also expensive when factor in costs of replacement inks and cartridges. 100 labels about $12 (US) for full coverage and less for 100 core labels. I keep the graphics simple also.

thanks for all who have responded so far....any web sites that are good for DVD movies? I am using Lables and a stomper and have had no problem so far although I am not too sure how to use the stomper exactly...I am jsut putting the printed lable down first and setting the dvd on top of that..burned side up of course and then pressing with my fingers....to ensure good application, turning dvd over and pressing it with the foam side? Am I way off? Hope not

Stick on labels are a PROBLEM! I have about 300 or so discs with labels that will not play, in anything..

I thought they were the greatest thing since sliced bread when I first started using them, NO MORE!

I now have an Epson R-200, print right on my Verbatim inkjet printables. Look great, no playback problems.

Read my Sig and just see long you can pee on the fence without getting burned???

I notice the only ppl recommending them are newbies..

There are three kinds of men: The ones that learn by reading; The few who learn by observation;
The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves...

Will sign off thread as don't want to get into a p- - -ing contest. Regardless whether a "newbie" or a "senior" member their should be some respect for differences of opinion that are not contentious. Ridicule of one person by another only demeans the person who ridicules. I appreciate all the information here at AD and understand there will be differences of opinion but for the most part people have been cordial and presented their side of the argument without demeaning the person who has a different position.

I have about 200 movies backed up and not a single coaster. I have no problems playing movies that I burned way back when. Then again - I have always just used a sharpie marker.

By the by, I also heard that if you stick a lable onto the disk, you will probably never get it perfectly centered, and therefore when the drive spins the disc at fast speeds, it will wobble and the disc will skip or you may have other viewing problems.
