Hello - I'm very new to this, I've only burned a few DVDs and so far it's been very disappointing. I've used Memorex DVD-R and FujiFilm DVD-R and they both have given me mixed results.

I have Nero 7 and I'm burning with Nero Vision. I always make sure to try and burn at 2x because I know the slower speeds supposedly cuts errors on the disk - at least that's what I've experienced with CD burning.

Anyway, when I try to play the disk in my DVD player - they all froze up at some point and couldn't be started again. When I removed the disk and put it back in - it plays and freezes in the same place. Tried to clean the DVD player with a canned air duster...same result. And some of the disks will play all the way through, but will be choppy and freeze for a few seconds.

I'm playing them on a Koss KS3112 http://snipurl.com/kx8c - which from the reviews is a crappy machine anyway. I bought it a few years ago and it was $100 - I didn't know anything about DVD players when I bought it.

Anyway, my question is - is it because I have a cheap DVD player that the burned disks don't work? I've had burned disks from friends that did the same thing...I've also had ones that worked the first time I played them and the second time started freezing up.

I'm very frustrated and this has really taken the wind out of my sails with DVD burning.

I'm also not very impressed with Nero for some reason. I don't like the way you can't have sub-menus - like if I had a group of videos from a band - I don't see where I can put them under that band's name, etc. I also don't like the way it builds your menu screens. I want more control over it and not have it so stock. Maybe I haven't worked with it much to know...so far I don't like the way it's set up.

Memorex are known to cause serious problems as they are poor quality media often manufactured by CMC Magnetics. Try burning something on good quality media like Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or Maxell and see if that helps.

PC Specs: P4 2.6Gb, 1Gb PC3200 RAM, NEC DVD-RW 1300A, DVD-ROM 16x, 80Gb HDD, 250Gb External HDD, XP Pro SP1.

I thought FijiFilm was a good brand - is it not? And really, if I get a new DVD player would that help as well?

Thanks for any help

Freezeing Playback is usually due to Burn error from Burning too Fast or from Bad Media or a Combination of Both but also the Type of DVD Player you have will also have an effect on this as Disks that freeze on My Cheapo Electrohome DVD Player Play Fine on my Sony Player (Actually the Sony was Cheaper but the Electrohome I got back when DVD Players were still a Bit expensive)....

You can Get Fairly good DVD Players these Days for Pretty cheap , the The Store up the Street they have a Panasonic DVD Player on Sale for $39 and it is Progressive Scan....

So Maybe Try Burning at Low speed with good Media and if it doesn"t help Take one of the Disks to the Electronics store and See if one of the Cheapo Players there will Play it from beginning to end (Just Skim through the Chapters) and if one does then Buy it.....

cheers
