Hello, I'll cut to the chase. I am having problems with backing up GUN. I have tried rebuilding, and my media is Fujifilm 4.7gb 8x. When I start up Swap Magic and load the program it won't recongize the dvd as a PS2 dvd. Help is much appreciated.

You might want to try using better media like Taiyo Yuden, Sony, Verbatim, TDK or Phillips. What speed are you burning the game at and with what program?

Sony should be fine. Also, you could try burning it with DVD Decrypter: http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/. See if that helps.

Have you updated your burner's firmware lately? You could try that and see if that helps. There is a link to it in my sig.

Yes I checked for dummy files when I was rebuilding. I downloaded the firmware for my model of burner yet it says it can't install.

Sometimes you have to shut all other programs down before you can update the firmware. Try that and see if it helps.

[Edit] Also, are these games copies from the original disc? If not, it might be a faulty file.

Yeah the disc is an original, I figured out that my rom drive is an OEM so I decided to Crossflash it, unfortunately I tried backing up Gun and playing it again but it didn't work. I am going to buy some Verbatim DVDs and see if that does the trick.

Since DVD+R's aren't giving you any luck, you might want to think about trying DVD-R's. You could get a little 5 pack just to test them out.

Gun worked on Phillips DVD+R for me, using a NEC writer in my HP. It only worked in a old v1 PS2, not my other slimline.

Try decreasing the burning speed, I had a similar problem with Marvel Nemesis and that appeared to be the problem.

Yes, I will second the lowering of burn speed. I had backed up a couple at 2x and they didn't work. I just tried it again at 1x and it worked. So that is what I use now, 1x

Ok, I've tried backuping some other games. San Andreas, Soul Caliber 2 and Armored Core 3, none of which work. Each time I try to boot them the ps2 goes directly to the "Browser" menu and I get to watch a "Reading Disc" then to a "Please insert a Playstation 2 or Playstation formatted disc".

Try cleaning the laser with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol to see if that helps.

Also, (for the new games) did you get different media or are you still using the same ones that gave you problems with Gun?

I cleaned the lens and I am glad to say I have had 2 successful boots of Gun on my Fujifilm DVD-R 4.7GB 8x media, burnt at 4x. Gun runs pretty smooth but is a little slow at respawning animals.

Glad to see that you got it working!!

Also, I bet if you try different media or burn speeds, that slow respawning problem will go away.
