I've seen many people on these forums say Verbatim discs are a good choice. I guess I may have gotten a bad batch or maybe it's just cause they were made in Taiwan. I bought a 100pk of hub printable 16x from Sam's and I have never burned this many coasters in my life. To give you an idea, I had some single memorex's laying around and they burned flawlessly compared to these Verbatims.

I decided to go the Taiyo Yuden route considering everyone here swears by them. Hopefully they won't give me this kind of trouble. LOL

try dvd identifier (free) - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id... and use it to 'identify' one of those discs, pasting the results here.

and also, what program you using to burn ?

I just used a spindle of the Verbs you are talking about from Sams Club and not 1 coaster out of the bunch, I never burn faster then 6 on any media, the chances of errors are to great for a bad burn, I use ANYDvd and Shrink with my Plextor burner and if I do get a bad burn, its usually something I did to cause it by not paying attention to what I was doing, also I do movie only

Provide us with a log of your burning software.

Maybe your drive needs a firmware upgrade, specialy if your dealing with brand new 16x media !

You can find what is your burner, and what firmware revision is installed from the logs, or use free tools like VSO Inspector v1.1

I have some of the MCC003 printables from Sam's as well, and they burn beautifully for me @8X on both my Pioneer and LiteOn (for specs/firmware, see profile). Gonna see how they do on the LG soon. I use Nero...

Hi there,

v1.03 is available for our drive:

http://support.necsam.com/oem/downloads/flashfirmware/fw/NECND354...

UPDATE: I just went to the NEC USA site

http://www.necus.com

- Product Support
- Drivers and Software (3rd Selector) Select CDROM
- DVD R/W Firmware Updates

And for some reason they are saying NEC-3450a Firmware is unavailable ??? !!!

I guess they found some issues and a new one will come out soon ?

Anyone have v1.03 to share right now ?

Sitmonkey.... I have used 61 of Sam's Verbatim -R 16X disc w/o a coaster using a Lite-ON 1633 and a NEC 3520 burners. They code out as MCC03RG20. Your firmware has to be current and burn no faster than 4X. I believe this has been covered in previous posts and threads. I use only TY's and Verbatim and the last coaster was was a TY due to a pit that should not have been there. For your information the Verbatim's purchased here are either manufactured in Taiwan or Singapore. The Verbatim DL's are manufactured in Singapore and are of the Advanced AZO Dye. Gear79 has supplied you the site to obtain a firmware upgrade if required. Merry Xmas to all and a great 2006. CIAO.... Texas Outlaw

Unless I'm retarded, I don't see my drive on that site. I'm not about to custom make my own firmware as I know nothing about it and have no desire to screw up my drive. I guess I'll just have to wait for NEC to update their site. Thx though.

SltMonkey ? You can get the official 1.03 firmware here: http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/download/3540/103_orig.zip

If you want the firmware with the riplock remove and Bit Setting then use this one: http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/download/3540/103_rpc1.zip

Please note: You will need to use a flashing programming. You can use a program called BinFlash: http://binflash.cdfreaks.com/download/1/1

Read through the site before you start. When you download the BinFlash make sure you get the "Win32 GUI"

Then follow the instruction from the ?Example on using Binflash?

I hope this helps. It may seem a little difficult, but trust me it?s really easy to do.
