I have a Samsung DVD-R120. I first burned some old Memorex DVD-Rs I bought in 2002. They worked fine on everything... DVD-Video, computer DVD burners... and the Toshiba Satellite mentioned below

I recently purchased some Imation 8X DVD-Rs. These burned DVD-Rs will play on the most finicky DVD players out there... my XBOX... old DVD players... even on other Toshiba laptops... except the Toshiba Satellite M45-S355 laptop that I bought in August. It doesn't recognize the disc, saying that the drive is inaccessible due to an I/O error. This Toshiba model has a DVD burner.

Does anyone know what might be going on? Is it a problem specifically with the media that I am using? If so, what media should I be using? Any suggestions? Toshiba won't help. Samsung tries their best, but they don't understand it and can only narrow it down to the media or the DVD burner in the computer.

Well it seems like is media problem, I had a similar problem, I bought 20 Imation DVD-R 8X (I though Imation was good due to their reputation but I was Wrong). I have a desktop, sony dru 710a and no name dvd-rom, and my laptop with QSI DVD, CD-RW combo, guess what? I burned thousand of important info on the Imation dvd's they read fine on most computers, and on my desktop, but on my laptop (hp ze4200) they did not, and if they did it took hours for the laptop to recognize them, and in the case of movies, it skiped so much that it was impossible to see them, off course this only happened on this laptop, so the solution, change the media, i had to pass 20 dvds to verbatim dvds, sony, tdk, maxell, and guess what? they read fine!!! so yes its the media, get some old good verbs, sony, tdk, maxell, FUJI +R (check for made in japan), smart buys (good but not best) and your problems will fly off!! DONT GET MEMOREX even though they read trust me their manacfurers are very low quality and if you want your data to be safe stick with the best (VERBS, SONY MAXELL, TDK) GL ;)
