Can this be done? I looked in DVD Decrypter but Sony was not listed on any of the tabs. Is there another way to do it? I've read some threads about being able to do it in Nero but I prefer to use CloneDVD to do my recoding.

i havent found anywhere to do it with clone no matter what drive u have.when i rip and burn with clone it doesent matter for me because all of my stand alones play +r media. but when it comes to dl+r media i have to booktype to play. i use dvddecrypter or Nero.i havent seen any utillities from sony to let u do this. the reason sony is not listed is because most of them are made by liteon.u can go here to see who made yours...http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters

Ok - I guess you're right about the OEM being Lite-On. I just checked out that site and it looks pretty cool. Since the drive is manufactured by Lite-On, could I use the Lite-On tab in Decrypter?

Yeah my firmware is updated to the latest version. I'll try using the Lite-On tab when I get home and see what happens.
Thanks for your help.

Yeah, the Lite-On tab will most likely work, if your burner is capable of booktyping. I have a Plextor and I have to use the BenQ tab in Decrypter when I want to booktype.

I have a new MAD DOG, MD-16XDVD9 that allows bit setting. I have a little program on my desktop that will set it to burn +R, +RW or +R DL to DVD-ROM any or all or change it back... I LOVE it!

@2oldGeek
What program is it that you use to booktype? I'd like to know just in case Decrypter doesn't work. Thanks.

Gee, I didn't know I'd stir up a hornets nest. LOL
It's a little program from Mad Dog that workes with their drive and can be downloaded from their site. Proly don't work with anything else.

I have the SONY DRU 710A (BYX5) and I've done with DVD Decrypter before, it works for the SONY using Lite-On tab. However, I don't really like the fact that you need to set the book type everytime you're going to burn. I prefer the "book type" settings on Nero better, once you've set DVD+R, DVD+RW and DVD+R DL as DVD-ROM it will stay in therr permanently.
Here is a guide on how to "book type" via DVD Decrypter. This is when you're "ready" to burn to the blank media (DVD+R DL, DVD+R, DVD+RW) only. If DVD+RW and DVD+R/+R DL doesn't work, then try the (DVD+R/+R DL Media - EEPROM!) - it should work. NOTE: set both of your "source" and "destination" ready, then do the following and burn it.
If you have the following set to "Automatic" then whenever you use Nero Recode 2, Nero Express or Nero Burning Rom to burn, all your backups will automatically set the book type to DVD-ROM. That is... if your DVD burner is capable of book typing.
((Here's how to Book Type using Nero Burning Rom))
01) open up Nero StartSmart, then click on Nero Burning Rom
02) EXIT out the "New Compilation" when it pops up
03) click on "Chooses A Recorder" (it's a small burner icon next to (I) and the arrow down)
04) click on ?Options," then on "Book Type Settings," set to "Automatic" and click "OK" - that's it... easy as smoking. Now every time when you burn using a DVD+R, DVD+RW or DVD+R DL disc, Nero will ?automatically? change the Book Type into a DVD-ROM format.
Good luck and have fun burning!!

If you booktype in Nero, can you still use another program to recode your dvd or do you have to use Nero?

If you change the Booktyping in DVDDecrypter then you have to use DVDDecrypter to benefit. Also with Nero you must use Nero to have it Booktype when set for it.
When Bitsetting on the Drive then any program you use will be what you set the Drive for?

I'm OLD not dead.
Bitsetting means setting the bits in a chip in the drive so that it will change the format on the disc that it writes to be either +R or -ROM, etc..

Oh ok - gotcha! Understood. So I guess my next question would be how do I change the booktype if I wanna use CloneDVD as my choice to burn?

@newtechie
If you set the "bitsettings or book type" to DVD-ROM via Nero Burning Rom, then it "only works" when you use Nero Express, Nero Burning Rom, Nero Recode 2 or Nero Vision to burn. However, Nero will store it permanently in your drive and every burns will become DVD-ROM when using DVD+R, DVD+RW or DVD+R DL media.
If you set the "book type" via DVD Decrypter, then it only works with DVD Decrypter, but you'll need to change it everytime you're burning.
In query to CloneDVD, sorry I don't use CloneDVD, but I believe there's an alternative way as well. Hopefully someone that used CloneDVD will resolve your question in due time.
