Well I just bought a DVP642 DivX player, but I realized that the format that I use isn't fully supported (.avi). So first of all I want to know the best format (as far as compatibility and quality) to transfer it to (it supports Divx 3.11, Divx 4, Divx 5, MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4) another format. I do not want to specifically record it to a DVD because I will transfer it to a DVD and play it as Data, so I don't need to convert it that way.

Thanks in advance.

I think you are a Little Confused here...DivX is AVI ,DivX 3.11/4/5 are all AVI Codecs in the Mpeg-4 Format so all you have to do is Install one of those Codecs and then encode your Video files useing that codec...

Most AVI Files you download off the Net are in either DivX or XviD Format and each of these Codecs can decode the other Format so you should be able to Burn any AVI file you download off of the Net to CD/DVD and Play it as Long as it was Created with the DivX 3/4/5 or XviD Codecs but if it was Created with say the "DivX 6" codec then it might not play in which case you would have to convert to to a Lower Version of the codec.....

Mpeg-1 and Mpeg-2 are the Formats used to Create Regular DVD"s which do have there advantages over DivX Files burned to DVD because with the DVD Format you can actually select which chapter and even what movie you want to watch from the Main Menu but DivX 5 and Under doesn"t Support Menu"s and Chapters so it will be a Bitch trying to Say Play the Last Half of the Third Movie on the DVD were with a Standard DVD you just have to select the Chapter and Movie from the Menu .....

Hrmm...well the .AVI files that I'm trying to play on my DivX player is having some problems. The audio is oftentimes off, and the player won't recognize how many files are on the disc itself. After looking through some of them, I found out that most of them are XviD format. But if that is an Mpeg-4 format, shouldn't everything work fine?
