I have checked out the guides and forums and can't find exactly what I need. I have downloaded all three programs so i can copy DVDs. But I am having trouble putting it all together. So far, I have decrypted using DVD Decrypter, Shrunk using DVD Shrink. What do I do with Nero from here? Can I use my computer to watch the DVD now or do I need to do something else ( I have Win Media Player)? Please help, I'm a bit lost...

Are you planning to burn your files to a DVD disk because that is what you do with Nero after you have Decrypted and Shrunk your movie. Nero is your burning engine, since DVD Shrink cannot burn a movie file to disk. Yes you can watch the movie on your PC.

You do not need DVD Shrink, just use DVD Decrypter or DVD Fab and then use Nero Recode 2. Make sure all software is up to date.
The reason I say use DVD Fab is because even though DVD Decrypter is a better software, it is not being updated anymore and therefor will not decrypt all the new movies. DVD Fab is still being updated.

@lilfilley,
Welcome to AD.. We are all here to help, especially the Newbies..
First of all before you try to burn a DVD, do a little research.
Look over the following guide for burning using DVDDecrypter and DVDShrink.
Then if you want to branch out to Nero, check the other Guides on the same site..
Also, if you are backing up one of the new movies that has some New protection that DVDDecrypter just can?t handle, consider downloading DVD43 (Free) or AnyDVD (21 day Free trial) to run in the backgroung and break all the new protections.
Look this over first:

2oldGeek you rock. Your linked guide was exactly what I needed. The movie plays great with one exception. I can't get it to play on one of my DVD players. It works on the Memorex cheapy but not on the Panasonic big boy. The DVD-R is made by Memorex so I'm guessing that plays a role. Any suggestions besides buy new media?

lilfilley,
When you say your Media is Memorex, it makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck..
Memorex has got to be the WORST media on the market???
Please download the following program and identify who actually manufactured the disc:
http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/
Then read the following to see where your disc falls in the media food chain:
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
Personally, I prefer Verbatim (MCC-004) for all my back-ups but there are other good disc on the market..
I always use DVD+R and booktype them to DVD-ROM. That makes them compatible with all players.
It?s my guess that your Memorex will not play on a high end Player because of the quality of the disc. It gets pretty deep as to why so, I won?t go into that, right now?. LOL
Check your disc out, read the report and make your own decision?
Anything else? Lay it on us here at AD (:-p)
P.S. I?ve used Memorex disc in my time. And I don?t like to think about it.. Please read my Signature?.

There is a facility on DVD Shrink to burn straight to disk once backed up anyway - so you could even do away with Nero if you wanted.
Using Recode is going a long way round a simple job. Use Decryptor or Shrink if you need to reduce it in size

@Welshboa, DVDShrink doesn?t have a burn engine, it uses Nero or DVDDecrypter to burn with. Therefore, you cannot do away with but one or the other. That is, if you want to burn from Shrink?.

I'll chime in to your question.
Booktyping allows standalone dvd players to play back your pc burned media. It only works with R+ only, also your burner has to support booktyping/bitsetting. Does it?

@lilfilley,
Very simply, The DVD that you buy with a Movie on it has not been burned on there, it?s pressed like an old time record. It?s what?s known as a DVD-ROM.
There is a spot on the disc that tells the player what kind of disc it is.. That is, a +R, -R, +RW, -RW, etc.
This area can be changed on the + types of discs but not on the ? ones. The +R?s are a newer format and they thought ahead. I feel like they will phase out the ?R?s soon.
This area can be written to and changed so the player thinks it is a DVD-ROM.
You can do this with the software, like Nero, or you can do it with the hardware, the DVD Drive, but only if the drive is capable of bitsetting. That?s another story.
Anyway, I only use the +R discs and change the Booktype to DVD-ROM. That way no matter what Player I put it in it will think it?s a pressed DVD-ROM and it will be more compatible with all players..
Chew that up and then do a search for Booktyping and see what you can come up with, as far as a better explanation, here on AD?.
O.K. lilfilley, that?s all the carrot you get for today. He Haw He Haw

@dr_no,
Your Drive dosen't Have to support betsetting. If it does, then you don't have to change each disc with the software.. I have 2 drives, 1 supports bitsetting and every +R I burn comes out as a DVD-ROM. The other drive doesn't support bitsetting so I set my Nero or Decrypter to Booktype each disc I burn on it........
Edit: I didn't mean to slip Decrypter in there.. It only sets bits LOL
