When asking for helps, you need to be specific (ie what kind of movie, what exactly is the error, what stage did the error occurred, computer specs, ram, etc.?) So, other members will have a better understanding of what you're talking about.

Ok, so the movie is "The Great Raid"? I haven't done this yet, but according to what members stated that it's giving them an "out of memory error" issues. This sounds like (could possibly be a new b!tch) another Macrovision's RipGuard protection. Here's what you need to do:

Get DVDFAB Decrypter (it's free - version 2.9.6.5)
http://69.73.173.59/download/DVDFabDecrypter29.exe

Get VobBlanker (free) http://members.aol.com/posunplugged/jsoto/VobBlanker_2010_exe.zip

***PROCESS #1***

1) now rip the movie with DVDFAB Decrypter into your hard drive and wait until it's completed, then Exit out.

2) open up DVD Shrink, click on Open Files and browse to your movie files and open it

3) run or shrink it as your usual process to see if it fails again this time. If DVD Shrink encountered an "out of memory error", then you'll need to abort this process and now try PROCESS #2.

***PROCESS #2***

1) since you've already ripped the movie into your hard drive with DVDFAB Decrypter earlier, now let's just go on with VobBlanker. All you need to do is create a new folder on your hard drive aka NEW_GREAT RAID, and a sub-folder name VIDEO_TS inside "NEW_GREAT RAID", then Exit out. Now it should read like this C:\NEW_GREAT RAID\VIDEO_TS **NOTE: this is your new folder that you're going to encode/transcode or shrik with DVD Shrink once everything is done with VobBlanker.

2) open up VobBlanker: (A) on your "input = source"<-- browse to your dvd files that you ripped with DVDFAB Decrypter earlier, then select VIDEO_TS and OPEN it. (B) on your "output = destination" <-- browse to your newly created NEW_GREAT RAID, VIDEO_TS folder and click OK or OPEN.

3) on VobBlanker, at the very bottom there should be a button called "PROCESS", now just click on "PROCESS", it will do its job (it will filter any bad sectors/junks out). Sit back and relax until it's successfully completed (this should take about 10 - 15 minutes only).

**NOTE: I can't tell you which cells or PGCs that has bad sectors or encrypted sectors to "Blank out", since I haven't done this movie yet, but you shouldn't have any problem with the above method or steps.

And now when it's completed, just open up DVD Shrink and perform your usual shrinking process. I hope it works for you.

That's it...and happy burning!!!!!

Also make sure that you are not multi-tasking during the process. 512mb of ram is not that much considering that Windows uses up to 128mb of ram, most DVD-RW drives will use 128mb of ram to run, some more than that, mine uses 512mb itself. Shrink uses almost all of the available ram to process so you need to make sure that you are doing nothing else while burning.

Cheers.

I recommend you get a RAM upgrade.

Just wondering here, but how did you get it to work? It might help someone else with the same problem. Please post how you did it, either a simple message like "used alkohols method 1" or if you found a slightly different way or something?

Thanks

With the type of problem described the method that should of worked is alkohol's description for PROCESS 2.

@ johnl123, I don't need to know how to do it... I was just asking specops70 how he got it work in the end as it might help out some other newbs reading his post... there's no need to re-iterate what alkohol put, everybody's quite capable of going up a few posts and reading it.

Dude...If I misunderstood your question, I opologize. To me the solution appears to be pretty straight forward.

1)DVDdecrypter..rip files to your HDD using file mode
2)VobBlanker(process #2)..to remove problem cells for dvdshrink
3)DVDshrink...shrink file to fit on a DVD-5, create ISO or VIDEO_TS
4)Burn backup with Nero as mentioned(either ISO image or VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders..burn at 4x but not greater that 8x).

DONE.
IF help is needed using these tools, there are plently of guides availiable, all one has to do is ask.

LOL, good one 9mm.

@johnl123 - please try to understand this... I am not looking for an answer to a question...

I know perfectly well how to backup dvd's etc and have been on this site for many many months now... hence the senior member status.

I was asking specops70 to post about which method HE used, so that other newbies like yourself could see which way worked for him.

Merry christmas all

Sorry guys, didn't mean to come across sounding like an a....ss. The newbie tag/ID given is not quite right, I've been doing this for about 3 yrs now and am only new to this forum. I always stay up to date and have pertty done it all with much success, so I guess I look at eveything with an experienced eye (the solutions are some what simple, just too many questions to answer and you guys do a GREAT job).
Again I'm sorry if any one got affended, not my intention.
HOW does one get rid of the newbie tag??

No I wasn't offended John... it just appeared you weren't reading what I'd put. I was just asking him to give feedback on what he actually used to fix his problem because all he said was "thanks it worked" but didn't say which method... so anyone reading that thread would also have to try both methods to see which one worked instead of trying the same way that he did... do you see what I mean? The solution was simple, but not what I'd asked for, so read the posts a bit more carefully in the future please.. i'm not knocking that you were trying to help, but there was no help to give if you see what I mean.

You get rid of the newbie status when you reach a certain number of posts, 50 I think... then you're a junior member. Then I think it's at 100 that you become a member and 500 is a senior member.
But don't post just anything to get the post count up, because you WILL get cautioned at the very least or booted altogether by the moderators.

Have a good christmas...
