I recently purchased a set top DVD Recorder, mostly to replace my vcr but I would also like to record tv shows then rip them to my pc, edit out commercials, then transfer them back to DVD. I use Sony Vegas for video editing and my knowledge of editing is fine. Vegas does not however but import VOB files directly.

What would be the best way to rip the vob from the dvds to an uncompressed format for editing, then transfer them back to dvd losslessly?

Actually transferring them back isn't really the issue, I just want an uncompressed/unchanged format from the current state so that I can easily record them back to dvd with no transcoding or re-encoding.

Thanks in advance.

DVDdecrypter is a fantastic ripper. So is DVDFab decrypter. I use them all the time and they are free.
