I bought some Verbatim 16x dvd+r. I tryed to burn a movie as I have been for over a year and it would not find the blank dvd. I found out my dvd+-rw drive was only an 8x drive.

I went out and bought a 16X DL dvd-+rw ram drive. The new maddog one. I was burning at 16X. All the movies about half way in are choppy/freezing jumping over parts in the movie ect. I got the 16x as thats all sam's had in stock in the 100 pack for $39. I can remove the dvd from the player and fast forward to the part it was freezing making noises ect and it will play fine for a few min where it once was freezing then a few minutes later it will again freeze at a new spot.

Been doing backups for a year. Using newest clonedvd and anydvd.
Was buying what ever dvd+r media that sam's had in the 50 packs.

Do you think the 16X is too fast to write at? What speed should I write at? Thanks

Yes, I think that burning at 16x can certainly contribute to the problem that you are describing. I do my burns at 4x and do not experience your problems. There are lots of folks here that burn faster though. The general rule is to not burn faster than 1/2 of the rated media speed. So a 16x you would burn no faster than 8x.

Some here who have been at it for years do burn at the rated speed on top notch media like Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim. I do not feel that I am at that point yet. I would have to do a bunch of quality scans on burnt media before I would feel that I knew which was the best speed for a particular media type.

I think that if you slow it down you will have better results.

seedpws 16X is WAY to fast slow your burn speed down to 4x or 8x and that will fix it

polo1967 all you need is CloneDVD 2 with AnyDVD (skip the other programs) heres a guide to use the program

Most here despise people selling or buying SlySoft goods on E-Bay. SlySoft do a great job & I think they deserve every cent they earn.

Ditto on that bilbo65! Buy AnyDVD & CloneDVD 2 ONLY from SlySoft! Buying these from Ebay is just plain WRONG! SlySoft has proven themselves to be reliable, competent & always on top of the lates issues with updates! Case in point: A new update Today! Several very good improvements in this update too! Most of the time SlySoft has an update for new protections BEFORE they even hit the street! If someone wants The Best 2 programs out there to back DVDs up, buy them from SlySoft! 59 bucks is a good deal for the package, if they run their promo, it's 49.00 for BOTH for "afterdawn" members. How can you go wrong with that? I have NEVER regreted buying these 2 from SlySoft! The best money I ever spent.
edited for typos.

Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

The quality of the dvd's can vary alot even if you buy the same exact brand and speed. I now only use verb. dvd's.
If you are new to burning I think you should download a FREE program called Dvd Indentifer ( do a search and you will locate it ) It tells you the real maker of the disc and aslo will have a quality page aswell to scale from.
I used to use Menorex but later found that they were made by cheap manufacturing.
The program DVD indent. will have you load the blank disc and it will read it then will tell you the manufacturing code then you use the guide to see where it falls on the quality scale. Verb's are high up there which is what I use now. There are just to many fake Ty's around. Remember to always burn at a slower speed 4X is what I do now. I make less costers that way and only takes a few more minutes. I have made over 200 great quality back up's with AnyDVD and CloneDvD2 it's way better then other programs and faster.
Yes only buy this software from Slysoft. I have asked them many question and they have ALWAYS been able to answer them well.

Polo...

Most who think they're burning at 16x are only burning at 8x...
And this only if you burn from your harddrive...

Burning from Dvd drive to Dvd drive usually gets you no more than 4x results about 16 minutes per 4.7gig disc... That's using 4x, 8x, or 16x media...

The same burn from your harddrive would take 8 minutes at 8x speed...

Does anyone out there get 16x speed or 4 minutes for an entire 4.7gig disc???

@Bootzy,
This is a moot point, I know of noboby that has any experience that would burn ANY media at Max speed. I have a 16x burner & use 16x Verbatims. I burn them at 8x. Get Great Results too! As a General Rule, it's Best to burn media at 1/2 it's rated burn speed. Many here will agree.

Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.
