I'm from the UK, so my format is PAL obviously..

I have a real version of Suikoden III which I got in America.. Yet I've tried booting it as Normal, PAL and NTSC. The weird thing is that the only time it has colour is with the PAL boot, the problem with this is that a 3rd of the screen is just black, so the picture is squashed. I've tried booting normally and the special boot.

Any ideas on what could be going wrong? Maybe my Scart cable doesn't support the USA format? If so, can anyone show me what type of cable I should need to purchase?

- Thank you in advance.

Alas, this the problem playing NTSC games on PAL consoles and vice versa. The Swap Magic video mode conversion is imperfect because it causes the vertical offset to be off; I get the same thing when I try to play PAL games on my NTSC console in NTSC mode. Yes, PAL boot would be the right choice for your TV. Yes, the black bar and resulting squashed picture are normal. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do about it other than making a backup of your game and using a NTSC-to-PAL convertor with the proper vertical offset. I'm not much of an expert in this field since I only play games in their native video modes, so hopefully someone else can add their input.

You could also get a NTSC-capable TV, but I doubt you want to do that.

Would that help me in anyway?

Also could you give me an example of one so when I go to buy one I can give an example.

Having an NTSC capable tv would make it appear as if you were playing a PAL game. As for what to look for when buying one, you want to get a Multistandard television. They play all three types: NTSC, PAL and SECAM. Here is an example of a multistandard tv: http://www.dvdshippers.com/itemhit21fl21f.html

Ah sorry everyone I miss-read it. I thought you typed a tv cable..

So would having an NTSC cable help me at all? Could anyone give me an example of one?

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I'm not sure if it can be done with just a cable, but you could try something like this: http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=26&products_id=1686&

It says that it converts NTSC signal to PAL...

Ok sorry for the double post, I know I'm supposed to edit my last post but I'm using this as a bump, sorry.

What shall I get:

NTSC >>> PAL Converter

or

PAL >>> NTSC Conveter

I'm pretty sure it would be N to P but I just want to make sure about it.

- Thanks.

You're right. You'd want NTSC-PAL conversion.
